Mick Lowe
Mick (Michael) Ellenwood Lowe (23 September 1947 – 17 April 2021) was an author, journalist, and writer based in Sudbury, Ontario, whose work appeared in a diverse range of Canadian publications including Maclean's, Canadian Business, Canadian Lawyer, ''The Globe and Mail'', the ''Financial Post Magazine'' and ''Northern Ontario Business''. Going North Born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1947 to Jack and Grace (Ellenwood) Lowe. About his youth, he recalled: "I was a reader. I loved to read. I liked to read about kids going to West Point, the Naval Academy, and jet fighter pilots. I was all into the American military Second World War stories. It's kind of funny then that I became a draft dodger." As a university student, he was a member of Students for a Democratic Society and was involved in campus protests against the Vietnam war. Greater Sudbury
Sudbury, officially the City of Greater Sudbury is the largest city in Northern Ontario by population, with a population of 166,004 at the 2021 Canadian Census. By land area, it is the largest in Ontario and the fifth largest in Canada. It is administratively a single-tier municipality and thus is not part of any district, county, or regional municipality. Voisey's Bay Mine
Voisey's Bay Mine is a nickel mine in Labrador, Canada, near the bay of the same name. The mine is located about southwest of Nain. Nickel deposit A large nickel deposit was discovered in the hills along the western shore of Potato Island in September 1993 by Archean Inc., a prospecting firm hired by Diamond Fields Resources Inc promoters Robert Friedland and Jean-Raymond Boulle. This deposit is considered to be one of the most substantial mineral discoveries in Canada in years and was estimated in 2007 to contain 141 million tonnes at 1.6% nickel. The Port Hope 8 case refers to the trial of eight members of the Satan's Choice Motorcycle Club in 1979 for the murder of William John Matiyek on 18 October 1978 at the Queen's Hotel in Port Hope, Ontario. Of the accused, six were convicted, and the case is widely considered to be a miscarriage of justice.
