Michigan Liberal (MichiganLiberal.com) is a defunct American political blog, publishing news and opinion from a liberal or progressive point of view. It functions as a discussion forum and group blog for a variety of Michigan netroots activists, whose efforts are primarily directed toward influencing and strengthening the Democratic Party. Michigan Liberal was founded in 2005 by Matt Ferguson, and modeled after the national site Daily Kos. Originally co-owned and run by Laura Packard and Jon Koller, and from 2007 until 2017 the owner and editor was Eric Baerren. Former contributors include Marcy Wheeler, Larry Kestenbaum, and Mark Grebner. In 2017, the Michigan Liberal brand was transferred to convicted felon Will Westerfield (aka: Charles William Westerfield), who was then promptly arrested in May 2017 for check fraud. Progressivism in the United States is a political philosophy and reform movement in the United States advocating for policies that are generally considered left-wing, left-wing populist, libertarian socialist, social democratic, and environmentalist. In mainstream American politics, progressives generally advocate for a universal healthcare system, wage equity and labor rights, economic justice, social justice, opposition to the military-industrial complex, corporate regulation, the abolition of capital punishment, and action on climate change. Netroots is a term coined in 2002 by Jerome Armstrong to describe political activism organized through blogs and other online media, including wikis and social network services. The word is a portmanteau of Internet and grassroots, reflecting the technological innovations that set netroots techniques apart from other forms of political participation. In the United States, the term is used mainly in left-leaning circles. Laura Packard
Laura Packard (born May 23, 1976) is an American health care activist and political commentator. She is the founder of Health Care Voices, a non-profit grassroots organization for adults with serious medical conditions. She is executive director of the group Health Care Voter, with actress Alyssa Milano, singer T-Boz, politicians Donna Edwards and Anton Gunn, activists Ady Barkan and Brad Woodhouse, and others as co-chairs. Packard is also executive director of Get America Covered, a group that promotes increased health coverage. Marcy Wheeler
Marcy Wheeler (known on Twitter by the handle "emptywheel") is an American independent journalist specializing in national security and civil liberties. Wheeler publishes on her own site, ''Emptywheel'', established in July 2011. She has reported on ''United States v. Libby'' (the trial of I. Mark Grebner (born 1952) is an American politician, attorney, political consultant and psephologist from the state of Michigan. Career Grebner is a resident of East Lansing, Michigan. He enrolled at Michigan State University as an Alumni Distinguished Scholar in 1970, completing a bachelor's degree in urban policy through MSU's James Madison College in 1981. He earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School. Jennifer Mulhern Granholm (born February 5, 1959) is a Canadian-American lawyer, educator, author, political commentator, and politician serving as the 16th United States secretary of energy since 2021.
