Michigan's 23rd Senate district is one of 38 districts in the Michigan Senate. It has been represented by Democrat Curtis Hertel Jr. since 2015, succeeding fellow Democrat Gretchen Whitmer. Geography District 23 encompasses part of Oakland County. 2011 Apportionment Plan District 23, as dictated by the 2011 Apportionment Plan, was based in Lansing and covered most of Ingham County, also included the surrounding communities of East Lansing, Mason, Haslett, Holt, Okemos, Edgemont Park, Meridian Township, and Delhi Township. Curtis Hertel Jr
Curtis Hertel Jr. (born January 9, 1978) is an American politician serving as a state senator for the 23rd district in Michigan, which represents the cities of Lansing and East Lansing, as well as the townships of Alaiedon Township, Michigan, Aurelius, Bunker Hill, Delhi, Ingham, Lansing, Leslie, Meridian, Onondaga, Vevay, Stockbridge, and White Oak. He was elected Ingham County Register of Deeds in 2008, and re-elected to a second term in 2012, followed by his election to the State Senate in 2014. He is the son of Curtis Hertel, who was co-speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1993 to 1994. 2014 United States Senate Election In Michigan
The 2014 United States Senate election in Michigan was held on November 4, 2014, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the State of Michigan, concurrently with the election of the governor of Michigan, as well as other elections to the United States Senate in other states and elections to the United States House of Representatives and various state and local elections. Incumbent Democratic Senator Carl Levin decided to retire instead of running for re-election to a seventh term. Primary contests took place on August 5, 2014, with U.S. Representative Gary Peters and former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land unopposed on the Democratic and Republican primary ballots, respectively. Deborah Ann Stabenow ( ; née Greer, born April 29, 1950) is an American politician serving as the senior United States senator from Michigan, a seat she has held since 2001. A member of the Democratic Party, she became the state's first female U.S. senator after defeating Republican incumbent Spencer Abraham in the 2000 election. 2014 Michigan Senate Election
Elections for the Michigan Senate was held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, with partisan primary elections to select the party's nominees held on August 5. All 38 seats in the Michigan Senate were contested, and those elected will serve in the 98th and 99th Michigan Legislatures. This was the first election for the Michigan Senate contested under the constituency boundaries drawn in consequence of the 2010 U.S. Census.
