Michael McGrath (hurler)
Michael 'Hopper' McGrath (born 30 June 1963 in Bullaun, County Galway) is an Irish former sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Sarsfields and was a member of the Galway senior inter-county team in the 1980s and 1990s. McGrath played for the Galway hurling team that was crowned All-Ireland Senior Hurling Champions in 1987 (defeating Kilkenny) and 1988 (defeating Tipperary.) McGrath was captain of the Sarsfields team when Sarsfields captured their second Galway Senior Hurling Championship title in 1989. On that occasion Sarsfields defeated Athenry in St.Brendans Park Loughrea, where the final score was Sarsfields 3-7, Athenry 1-8. McGrath helped Sarsfields to win the club's third senior county title in 1992. On that occasion Sarsfields defeated Carnmore in the county final reply, where the final score was Sarsfields 1-14, Carnmore 1-5. Sarsfields GAA (Galway)
Sarsfields Galway is a GAA club consisting of the parish of Bullaun, New Inn and Woodlawn in East County Galway, Ireland. Winners of two All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship's. The club was founded in 1966 and is almost exclusively concerned with the game of hurling. And in 2016 Sarsfields Hurling Club celebrated its 50th year. Sarsfields Galway were the first club to defend their All-Ireland Club Hurling title. In 1993 Sarsfields defeated opponents Kilmallock, County Limerick in their first All-Ireland club final. In 1994, Sarsfields retained their club title with a victory over Toomevara, County Tipperary. History Prior to 1966, two clubs St. Killians (of New Inn), and Bullaun existed in the parish. 1992–93 All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship
The 1992–93 All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship was the 23rd staging of the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county club hurling tournament. The championship ended on 17 March 1993. Kiltormer were the defending champions but failed to qualify after being defeated in the county championship. Erin's Own of Cork, Ballyheigue of Kerry and Wolfe Tones of Longford made their first appearances in the championship. On 17 March 1993, Sarsfields won the championship following a 1-17 to 2-7 defeat of Kilmallock in the All-Ireland final. This was their first All-Ireland title. Connacht Inter-provincial Hurlers
Connacht ( ; ga, Connachta or ), is one of the provinces of Ireland, in the west of Ireland. Until the ninth century it consisted of several independent major Gaelic kingdoms (Uí Fiachrach, Uí Briúin, Uí Maine, Conmhaícne, and Delbhna). Between the reigns of Conchobar mac Taidg Mór (died 882) and his descendant, Aedh mac Ruaidri Ó Conchobair (reigned 1228–33), it became a kingdom under the rule of the Uí Briúin Aí dynasty, whose ruling sept adopted the surname Ua Conchobair. Gerry McInerney (Galway Hurler)
Gerry McInerney (born 14 March 1965 in Kinvara) is a former Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Kinvara and with the Galway senior inter-county team in the 1980s and 1990s. Career McInerney traveled to the USA in 1985 to play hurling for the weekend and ended up staying there for the next five years until returning permanently in 1990. Each year he had traveled back in August to play for Galway in the All-Ireland semi-finals. He became known for his white boots which he purchased in the USA. He won back-to-back All-Ireland winners' medals with Galway in 1987 and 1988. At the age of 42 he was the player-coach for the 2007 Kinvara squad. The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Additionally, one player in each code is selected as Player of the Year. The awards were instituted in 1971. Since 2011 they have been presented jointly by the Gaelic Athletic Association and the representative body for inter-county players, the Gaelic Players Association.
