Michael Carter (cyclist)
Michael Carter (born March 3, 1963 in Denver) is an American racing cyclist. He still races as an amateur. He competed in the 1984 Giro d'Italia with the Gianni Motta–Linea M.D. Italia team, the first American team to compete in any of cycling's grand tours, he also rode for Xerox–Philadelphia Lasers in the 1985 Vuelta a España and Team Motorola in the 1991 Tour de France. In 2008, he finished third in the world masters road championship, in the 45-49 age category, won by Belgian Kenny De Maerteleire. The Bob Cook Memorial Mount Evans Hill Climb or Mount Evans Hill Climb is a bicycle race situated on Mount Evans near Idaho Springs, Colorado. Begun in 1962, the race has been held every year since except for three cancellations. In 1981, it was renamed in honor of five-time race winner Bob Cook, who died of cancer at the age of 23. The race is 27.4 miles (44.1 kilometers) in length and ascends . The race takes place on the highest paved road in the United States, starting at an altitude of 7,540 feet (2,298 meters) and terminating at 14,130 feet (4,306 meters), 130 feet (39 meters) below Mount Evans' summit. The Cascade Cycling Classic was the longest running elite road bicycle racing stage race in the United States (1980–2019), with 2018 being the only year the race was not held. The race took place in the Central Oregon region and was based in Bend, Oregon. It was a regular fixture for most of North America's top cyclists and teams. Owned and managed by the Cascade Cycling Classic Youth Foundation, former pro cyclist and two time National Road Champion Bart Bowen was both the Foundation's executive director and the Classic's race director.
