Mica Mountain is a 2,855-meter-elevation (9,367-foot) mountain summit located in British Columbia, Canada. Description Mica Mountain is situated 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) southwest of Tête Jaune Cache, British Columbia, at the eastern edge of the Premier Range which is a subset of the Cariboo Mountains. The British Columbia Highway 5, Southern Yellowhead Highway passes the eastern base of the mountain as it traverses Robson Valley. Precipitation Surface runoff, runoff from Mica Mountain drains into Tête Creek and the McLennan River. Topographic relief is significant as the summit rises over 1,650 meters (5,400 feet) above the creek in four kilometers (2.5 miles). In good weather the view from the summit includes Mount Robson, Canoe Mountain (British Columbia), Canoe Mountain and Kinbasket Lake. Micas ( ) are a group of silicate minerals whose outstanding physical characteristic is that individual mica crystals can easily be split into extremely thin elastic plates. This characteristic is described as perfect basal cleavage. Mica is common in igneous and metamorphic rock and is occasionally found as small flakes in sedimentary rock. McLennan River
The McLennan River is a tributary of the Fraser River in the Robson Valley region of British Columbia. The river was named after an engineer on one of the Canadian Pacific Railway surveys in the 1870s. Course The McLennan River originates in the Premier Range, flowing from McLennan Glacier between Mount Stanley Baldwin and Mount Arthur Meighen. The river flows east out of the mountains into the Rocky Mountain Trench near Valemount. Then it turns northwest, flowing through the Rocky Mountain Trench, picking up tributary streams flowing from the Selwyn Range to the east and the Premier Range to the west. Kinbasket Lake
Kinbasket Lake (or Kinbasket Reservoir) is a reservoir on the Columbia River in southeast British Columbia, north of the city of Revelstoke and the town of Golden. The reservoir was created by the construction of the Mica Dam. The lake includes two reaches, Columbia Reach (to the south) and Canoe Reach (to the north), referring to the river valleys flooded by the dam. To the north it almost reaches the town of Valemount in an impoundment of the Canoe River. To the south it reaches upstream the Columbia River towards the city of Golden. The original, smaller Kinbasket Lake was named in 1866 after Kinbasket, a chief of the Shuswap people. The modern, large lake was created after the completion of the Mica Dam in 1973, and was called McNaughton Lake (after Andrew McNaughton) until 1980. Mount Robson
Mount Robson is the most prominent mountain in North America's Rocky Mountain range; it is also the highest point in the Canadian Rockies. The mountain is located entirely within Mount Robson Provincial Park of British Columbia, and is part of the Rainbow Range.
