Merdeka Award
The Merdeka Award is a Malaysian award that recognises and celebrates the achievements and significant contributions of individuals to Malaysia and its people, within their respective fields. The Royal Patron of the Merdeka Award Trust is the Sultan of Perak Darul Ridzuan, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah. Founding The Merdeka Award was launched on 27 August 2007 in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the independence of Malaysia. It was founded by PETRONAS, ExxonMobil and Shell. Award Process The Merdeka Award is conferred annually to individuals and/or organisations, both Malaysians and non-Malaysians, based on excellent works that have made outstanding and lasting contributions to Malaysia, in their respective fields. Petroliam Nasional Berhad (National Petroleum Limited), commonly known as Petronas, is a Malaysian oil and gas company. Established in 1974 and wholly owned by the Government of Malaysia, the corporation is vested with all oil and gas resources in Malaysia and is entrusted with the responsibility of developing and adding value to these resources. In the 2017 Forbes Global 2000, Petronas Gas was ranked at 1881st. Petronas also ranked 48th globally in the 2020 Bentley Infrastructure 500. Rural economics is the study of rural economies. Rural economies include both agricultural and non-agricultural industries, so rural economics has broader concerns than agricultural economics which focus more on food systems. Lim Boo Liat
Lim Boo Liat (21 August 1926 – 11 July 2020) was a Malaysian zoologist whose pioneering work revealed the biological diversity of the Malay Peninsula and Borneo. He was a conservationist and a strong advocate for the preservation of the region's natural heritage. Lim was a prolific researcher, and authored over 300 scientific papers and multiple books. He was bestowed several honors during his long career, including being the first Southeast Asian to receive Honorary Membership in the American Society of Mammalogists, and winning the Merdeka Award in 2013. Early years Lim Boo Liat was born 21 August 1926 in Klang, Selangor. Nature lessons in school inspired a love for the outdoors, and he spent time in his youth collecting plants and insects. Salleh Mohd Nor
YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Salleh bin Haji Mohd Nor (born 20 October 1940, in Kuala Pilah (town), Negeri Sembilan) is a Malaysian forester, conservationist and academician. Dr. Salleh was the first director-general of the Forest Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) and served as president of the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) for 30 years. Education Tan Sri Dr Salleh received the Colombo Plan Scholarship to study forestry in Adelaide from 1961-1962, and later at the Australian Forestry School (AFS), Canberra, from which he graduated with a BSc (Forestry) from Adelaide University and a Diploma of Forestry from AFS. The culture of Malaysia draws on the varied cultures of the different people of Malaysia.
