Mercè Rodoreda
Mercè Rodoreda i Gurguí (; 10 October 1908 – 13 April 1983) was a Catalan novelist. She is considered the most influential contemporary Catalan language writer, as evidenced by the references of other authors in her work and the international repercussion, with translations into more than thirty languages. She also has been called the most important Catalan female novelist of the postwar period. Her novel ''La plaça del diamant'' ('The diamond square', translated as '' The Time of the Doves'', 1962) has become the most popular Catalan novel to date and has been translated into over 30 languages. Some critics consider it to be one of the best novels published in Spain after the Spanish Civil War. Sant Gervasi – la Bonanova is a neighbourhood in the ''Sarrià-Sant Gervasi'' district of Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain). Formerly it was with the neighbourhood of Sant Gervasi - Galvany, an independent municipality called Sant Gervasi de Cassoles. Josep Carner
Josep Carner i Puigoriol (; born Barcelona 9 February 1884 - died Brussels 4 June 1970), was a Spanish poet, journalist, playwright and translator. He was also known as ''the Prince of Catalan Poets''. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature seven times. Biography In 1897, Carner entered the Universitat de Barcelona, University of Barcelona, where he studied law and philosophy, and developed an interest in Catalan nationalism. He likewise worked on a number of literary journals, including ''Montserrat'' and ''L'Atlàntida'', among others. Carner went on to direct ''Catalunya2'' (from 1903 to 1905), ''Empori'' (from 1907 to 1908) and ''Catalunya'' (from 1913 to 1914). In 1911, he became a member of the Philological Section of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (the "Institute of Catalan Studies," akin to a "Royal Academy" for the Catalan language). Josep Maria de Sagarra i de Castellarnau (Barcelona, 5 March 1894 – 27 September 1961) was a Catalan-language writer from Barcelona, Catalonia. Biography Born in Barcelona in 1894, in the breast of a family of the Catalan nobility being son of the historian and Sigillography, sigilógrafo Fernando de Sagarra i de Siscar. He attended a Jesuit high school and studied law at the University of Barcelona, initially with the purpose of entering into a diplomatic career. However, he quickly decided to become a writer and at the age of 18 won a prize of poetry in the Floral Games. He became a full-time journalist who worked as a correspondent in Germany and as a theatrical critic. Joan Maragall
Joan Maragall i Gorina (; 10 October 1860 in Barcelona – 20 December 1911) was a Spanish poet, journalist and translator, the foremost member of the ''modernisme'' movement in literature. His manuscripts are preserved in the Joan Maragall Archive of Barcelona. Life Maragall's upper-class family was dedicated to the flourishing textile industry in Barcelona, and after finishing school, Joan Maragall took on his father's job. Having never liked his family's trade, he decided to go to university instead, where he studied law to his father's great disappointment. However, he dropped out of school and married Clara Noble with whom he had 13 children. In 1904 he won all three prizes awarded by the ''Jocs Florals'' in Barcelona, and was proclaimed ''Mestre en Gai Saber''. Ramon Llull
Ramon Llull (; c. 1232 – c. 1315/16) was a philosopher, theologian, poet, missionary, and Christian apologist from the Kingdom of Majorca. He invented a philosophical system known as the ''Art'', conceived as a type of universal logic to prove the truth of Christian doctrine to interlocutors of all faiths and nationalities. The ''Art'' consists of a set of general principles and combinatorial operations. It is illustrated with diagrams. A prolific writer, he is also known for his literary works written in Catalan, which he composed to make his ''Art'' accessible to a wider audience. ''L'Atlàntida'' () is an 1877 poem in Catalan by Jacint Verdaguer. It consists of an introduction, ten books, and a conclusion, dealing with the wanderings of Heracles in the Iberian Peninsula, the sinking of the continent of Atlantis, the creation of the Mediterranean Sea, and the discovery of the Americas. This poem was written by Verdaguer in honour of shipping magnate Antonio López y López, first Marquis of Comillas. Jacint Verdaguer i Santaló (; 17 May 1845 – 10 June 1902) was a Catalan / Spanish writer, regarded as one of the greatest poets of Catalan literature and a prominent literary figure of the Renaixença, a cultural revival movement of the late Romantic era. The bishop Josep Torras i Bages, one of the main figures of Catalan nationalism, called him the "Prince of Catalan poets". Adrià Gual i Queralt (; Barcelona, 1872–1943) was a Catalan playwright and theatre businessman, founder of the Escola Catalana d'Art Dramàtic and a pioneer of cinema in Barcelona. He founded El Teatre Íntim (The Intimate Theatre). He was Director of the Catalan School of Drama and artistic director of the film production ''Barcinógrafo'' (1913). Document important were his memoirs, published posthumously: ''Mitja vida de teatre'' (Half Life Theatre, 1960).
