Mephistopheles
Mephistopheles (, ), also known as Mephisto, is a demon featured in German folklore. He originally appeared in literature as the demon in the Faust legend, and he has since appeared in other works as a stock character (see: Mephistopheles in the arts and popular culture). Etymology and name meaning The name ''Mephistopheles'' is a corrupted Greek compound. The Greek particle of negation (μη, ''mē'') and the Greek word for love or loving (φίλος, ''philos'') are the first and last terms of the compound but the middle term is more doubtful. ''The Black Halo'' is the highly acclaimed, seventh full-length album by the American power metal band Kamelot. It was released on March 15, 2005, through Steamhammer Records. It is a concept album inspired by Goethe's Faust. Continuing the story introduced in ''Epica'' (2003), it is the second and final record in Kamelot's two-part rock opera about Ariel (a character based on Heinrich Faust). Epica tells Part 1 while The Black Halo tells Part 2. Goethe's Faust is also broken into two parts. ''Epica'' is the sixth full-length album by the American power metal band Kamelot, released on March 3, 2003 through Noise Records. It was the first concept album by Kamelot. This album, along with its sequel ''The Black Halo'' (2005), is a rock opera inspired by the story of Goethe's Faust. Epica tells Part 1 while The Black Halo tells Part 2. (Goethe's Faust has two parts.) Most of the lyrics were written before the actual music was composed. The album inspired the naming of the band Epica after its release. ''Moonlake'' is the thirty-fifth album by Klaus Schulze. It was originally released in 2005, and, taking in consideration the previously released multi-disc box sets (''Silver Edition'', ''Historic Edition'', ''Jubilee Edition'', ''Contemporary Works I'', and ''Contemporary Works II ''Contemporary Works II'' is a limited edition 5-disc CD box set released by Klaus Schulze in 2002 containing new studio material. ''Irreligious'' is the second studio album by Portuguese gothic metal band Moonspell, released in 1996. It features some of the best-known songs of the band, such as "Opium", "Ruin & Misery", "Awake!" and "Full Moon Madness". ''Mefistofele'' () is an opera in a prologue and five acts, later reduced to four acts and an epilogue, the only completed opera with music by the Italian composer-librettist Arrigo Boito (there are several completed operas for which he was librettist only). The opera was given its premiere on 5 March 1868 at La Scala, Milan, under the baton of the composer, despite his lack of experience and skill as a conductor. However, it was not a success and was immediately withdrawn after only two performances. Revisions in 1875 resulted in success in Bologna and, with further adjustments in 1876 for Venice, the opera was performed elsewhere. The ''Mephisto Waltzes'' (german: Mephisto-Walzer, link=no) are four waltzes composed by Franz Liszt from 1859 to 1862, from 1880 to 1881, and in 1883 and 1885. Mefisto (band)
Mefisto is a Swedish extreme metal band formed in Stockholm in 1984. History After changing its name from ''Torment'', Mefisto was one of the first Swedish extreme bands to follow Bathory. They had a big influence on early Swedish death metal, along with Obscurity as well as Merciless shortly thereafter. Mefisto originally consisted of three members: guitarist Omar Ahmed, drummer Robert "Thord" Granath, and singer Sandro Cajander. Cajander, who later joined Morbid, had a deep, harsh vocal style comparable to but more extreme than peers Bathory or Venom, which was developed further by LG Petrov of Nihilist (later Entombed). Mefisto released two cassette demos, "Megalomania" in May 1986 and "The Puzzle" in November 1986. However, after just two demos Mefisto disbanded in 1987, getting little support. It was first published as an English translation by Gregory Zilboorg in 1924 by E. P. Dutton in New York, with the original Russian text first published in 1952.
