Memorial Park, Palmerston North
Memorial Park is a multi-use stadium in Palmerston North, New Zealand. It is currently used mostly for football matches and was the home stadium of YoungHeart Manawatu before they disbanded. The stadium has a capacity of 8,000 people. The stadium hosted the final of the 2011 Chatham Cup on 28 August 2011. Wairarapa United won the competition for the first time in their history, defeating Napier City Rovers 2–1. This is the first time that the final of New Zealand's premier knockout football competition has been held in Palmerston North. Manawatu United (previously known as YoungHeart Manawatu) was a football club based in Palmerston North, New Zealand. It participated in the New Zealand Football Championship, and fielded a youth side in the National Youth League. Their home ground was Memorial Park. In 2014, the team was renamed to Manawatu United. History Manawatu United was formed in 2004, under the name YoungHeart Manawatu, to compete in the New Zealand Football Championship (NZFC). Based in Palmerston North, they were the sole franchise in the region. In the inaugural NZFC season (2004–2005), Manawatu United finished bottom of the league. 2011 Chatham Cup
The 2011 ASB Chatham Cup is New Zealand's 84th knockout football competition. The 2011 competition had a preliminary round, a qualification round, and four rounds proper before quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a final. Competition was run in three regions (northern, central, southern) until the quarter-finals, from which stage the draw was open. In all, 120 teams entered the competition. Wairarapa United is a Association football, football club based in Masterton, New Zealand and are currently competing in the Central Premier League, Central League. Club history The club was formed by the merger of Masterton (soccer), Masterton and Carterton in 1996. The club has competed in the Central Premier League, Central League since 2009. In Wairarapa's first season in the Central Premier League, Central League, the club finished sixth in the league. Napier City Rovers is a football team based in Napier, New Zealand, competing in the Central Premier League. Club history The team was founded in 1973 via a merger of Napier Rovers and Napier City.
