The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences ( nl, Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen, abbreviated: KNAW) is an organization dedicated to the advancement of science and literature in the Netherlands. In addition to various advisory and administrative functions it operates a number of research institutes and awards many prizes, including the Lorentz Medal in theoretical physics, the Dr Hendrik Muller Prize for Behavioural and Social Science and the Heineken Prizes. Johannes Willem "Johan" Schot (born 4 February 1961) is a Dutch historian working in the field of science and technology policy. A historian of technology and an expert in sustainability transitions, Johan Schot is Professor of Global Comparative History at thCentre for Global Challenges Utrecht University. Louis Mensse Schoonhoven (born 30 June 1931) is a Dutch entomologist. He was a professor of general and comparative animal physiology and later entomology at Wageningen University and Research between 1972 and 1991. He is a specialist in insect-plant relationships. Early life Schoonhoven was born on 30 June 1931 in The Hague. Although raised in an urban environment Schoonhoven became interested in biology at an early age. He started his secondary school at the gymnasium. During the Dutch famine of 1944–45 he moved to Groningen. Upon return to The Hague he switched his secondary school type to the Hogere Burgerschool. Kristofer Marinus Schipper (23 October 1934 – 18 February 2021), also known as Rik Schipper and by his Chinese name Shi Zhouren (), was a Dutch sinologist. He was a professor of Oriental studies at Leiden University, appointed there in 1993. Schipper worked as researcher for École française d'Extrême-Orient and later taught as directeur de recherche in History of Daoism studies at the École pratique des hautes études in Paris. Bernardus Johannes Godefridus Scheres (Ben) Scheres (born 10 July 1960 in Echt, Netherlands, Echt) is a Dutch developmental biologist. He is Professor of Plant Developmental Biology at Wageningen University. Scheres studied phytopathology at Wageningen University, where he received his doctorate in 1990. After a post-doctoral period at the Laboratory of Genetics in Ghent, he became a lecturer at the University of Utrecht, where he became Professor of Plant Developmental Biology in 1999 and Professor of Molecular Genetics in 2005. Scheres studies the developmental biology of plants and compares them to that of animals, discovering many similarities. He used the thale cress as a test plant.
