Louis Schoonhoven
Louis Mensse Schoonhoven (born 30 June 1931) is a Dutch entomologist. He was a professor of general and comparative animal physiology and later entomology at Wageningen University and Research between 1972 and 1991. He is a specialist in insect-plant relationships. Early life Schoonhoven was born on 30 June 1931 in The Hague. Although raised in an urban environment Schoonhoven became interested in biology at an early age. He started his secondary school at the gymnasium. During the Dutch famine of 1944–45 he moved to Groningen. Upon return to The Hague he switched his secondary school type to the Hogere Burgerschool. In 1950 he moved to Groningen to study biology at the University of Groningen. During this period he had internships under biologist Gerard Baerends and ecologist Luuk Tinbergen. Entomology
Entomology () is the science, scientific study of insects, a branch of zoology. In the past the term "insect" was less specific, and historically the definition of entomology would also include the study of animals in other arthropod groups, such as arachnids, myriapods, and crustaceans. Christian Konrad Sprengel
Christian Konrad Sprengel (22 September 1750 Р7 April 1816) was a German naturalist, theologist, and teacher. He is most famous for his research on plant sexuality. Sprengel was the first to recognize that the function of flowers was to attract insects, and that nature favoured cross-pollination. Along with the work of Joseph Gottlieb K̦lreuter he set the foundations for the modern study of floral biology and anthecology, but his work was not widely recognized until Charles Darwin examined and confirmed several of his observations almost 50 years later; see Fertilisation of Orchids (1862). Life Sprengel was born in Brandenburg an der Havel in the Margraviate of Brandenburg. Marcel Dicke
Marcel Dicke (born November 28, 1957, in Dordrecht, Netherlands) is a Dutch professor of entomology who has been affiliated with Wageningen University since 2002. He conducts research on insects and has published in the scientific journals ''Science'' and ''Nature''. Dicke received the Spinoza Prize in 2007 for his research on the interactions between plants and insects. Career Dicke studied biology at Leiden University, where he graduated ''cum laude'' in 1982.
