Mei-Chu Tournament
The Meichu Game () is an annual sports competition in March between National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (Merger of National Yang Ming University and National Chiao Tung University) of Taiwan. Both schools are located in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. The competition was first held in 1969, although an unofficial tournament had been held in 1966. (plum-tree) stands for NTHU and 竹 (bamboo) for NYCU. The symbolic names are taken from the founders of both universities, ''Mei'' Yi-chi of NTHU and Ling ''Chu''-ming of NCTU, and they further represent pride and purity (plum) as well as rich and everlasting heritage (bamboo). National Tsing Hua University
National Tsing Hua University (NTHU; ) is a public research university in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. National Tsing Hua University was first founded in Beijing. After the Chinese Civil War, the then-president of the university, Mei Yiqi, and other major academics fled to Taiwan with the retreating Nationalist government. In 1956, they reinstalled National Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan, which has since remained independent and distinct from Tsinghua University in Beijing. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. Hsinchu
Hsinchu (, Chinese: 新竹, Pinyin: ''Xīnzhú'', Wade–Giles: ''Hsin¹-chu²'') is a city located in northwestern Taiwan. Mei Yi-chi
Mei Yiqi or Mei Yi-chi (; 29 December 1889 – 19 May 1962), courtesy name Yuehan (), was a Chinese politician, physicist and educator, who served two separate terms as Ministry of Education of the Republic of China, from 1948 to 1949 and from 1958 to 1961. He was President of National Tsinghua University between 1931 and 1948, making him the university's longest serving president. Biography Mei was born in Tianjin on 29 December 1889, to a merchant family. His father Mei Bochen () was a small merchant. His ancestral home in Wujin District, Changzhou, Jiangsu Province.
