''Meet Glen Campbell'' is the sixtieth album by American singer/guitarist Glen Campbell, released in 2008. The album consisted of country covers of rock songs by Travis, Tom Petty, The Replacements, Jackson Browne, U2, The Velvet Underground, John Lennon, and Green Day. In 2012, Capitol Records reissued it with five bonus tracks, including live versions from the 2008 AOL Sessions of "Wichita Lineman", "Rhinestone Cowboy", and " All I Want Is You"), and new 2008 remixes of the tracks "Gentle on My Mind" and "Galveston". Glen Campbell
Glen Travis Campbell (April 22, 1936 – August 8, 2017) was an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, actor and television host. He was best known for a series of hit songs in the 1960s and 1970s, and for hosting '' The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour'' on CBS television from 1969 until 1972. He released 64 albums in a career that spanned five decades, selling over 45 million records worldwide, including twelve gold albums, four platinum albums, and one double-platinum album. Born in Delight, Arkansas, Campbell began his professional career as a studio musician in Los Angeles, spending several years playing with the group of instrumentalists later known as " The Wrecking Crew". After becoming a solo artist, he placed a total of 80 different songs on either the ''Billboard'' Country Chart, ''Billboard'' Hot 100, or Adult Contemporary Chart, of which 29 made the top 10 and of which nine reached number one on at least one of those charts. Galveston (song)
"Galveston" is a song written by Jimmy Webb and popularized by American country music singer Glen Campbell who recorded it with the instrumental backing of members of The Wrecking Crew. In 2003, this song ranked number 8 in '' CMT's 100 Greatest Songs in Country Music''. Campbell's version of the song also went to number 1 on the country music charts. On other charts, "Galveston" went to number 4 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and number one on the "Easy Listening" charts. It was certified gold by the RIAA in October 1969. Background and writing The protagonist is a soldier waiting to go into battle who thinks of the woman he loves and his hometown of Galveston, Texas.
