George McLachlan
George Hardie McLachlan (21 September 1901 – September 1964) was a Scottish professional footballer and manager. He played for a number of amateur sides as a youth but began his professional career with Clyde in the Scottish Football League. He signed for Football League First Division side Cardiff City in 1925 for a fee of £2,000. He made more than 150 appearances for the side over four seasons in all competitions and was part of the team that won the 1927 FA Cup Final. In 1929, he was sold to Manchester United where he was later appointed club captain. He later played for Chester in 1933 before being appointed manager of French side Le Havre in 1934, where he also briefly played. He returned to Scotland in 1935, becoming manager of Queen of the South. He spent two seasons in charge of the side and also led the team on a 1936 overseas tour of France. Alexander McLachlan (1818–1896) was a Scottish-born Canadian poet who was active in the mid-nineteenth century and wrote in both Scottish dialect and poetic convention of the homesickness of Scottish immigrants to Canada. Both his contemporary and later critics have called him "the Canadian Robert Burns", after a Scottish national poet who also authored Scottish traditional verse. He served as a Senator for South Australia from 1926 to 1944, representing the Nationalist Party and United Australia Party. Angus Alexander McLachlan (born 11 November 1944) is an Australian pastoralist and former first-class cricketer. Cricket career Like his elder brother Ian before him, McLachlan was educated at St. Peter's College, Adelaide, and Jesus College at the University of Cambridge. He made his first-class cricket debut for Cambridge University in his freshman year, 1964, taking 4 for 41 with "excellent leg-spin bowling" against Northamptonshire. Two games later he took 4 for 36 and 1 for 36 in an innings victory over Combined Services. He kept his place in the team for the rest of the season, playing in the annual match against Oxford University at Lord's. He finished the season with 18 wickets at 33.55.
