McKillop (surname)
McKillop is an English language surname derived from the Gaelic ''MacFhilib'', meaning "son of ''Filib''" (a Gaelic form of ''Philip''). There were families of MacKillops on the Isle of Arran; there were also families in Argyll who were a sept of the MacDonalds of Glencoe; others in Inverness-shire were a sept of the McDonnells of Keppoch. MacKillops were also standard-bearers to the Campbells of Dunstaffnage, in Argyll. The MacKillops of Berneray, North Uist are known in Scottish Gaelic as ''MacPhà ic''; they were associated with the MacLeods. Sir Thomas Fulton Wilson McKillop, FRS, FRSE (born 19 March 1943) is a Scottish chemist, who was CEO of AstraZeneca PLC from 1999 until 2006 and chairman of the RBS Group from 2006 until 2008. Early life McKillop was born in Dreghorn, a small village in North Ayrshire. He was educated at Irvine Royal Academy and then Glasgow University, where he took a BSc (Hons) and PhD in chemistry. He joined the ICI Petrochemical & Polymer Laboratory (later renamed the ICI Corporate Laboratory) at Runcorn in 1969 after post-doctoral research work in Paris. Scott Kenneth McKillop (born March 4, 1986) is a former American football linebacker. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football at Pittsburgh. Early years McKillop attended Kiski Area High School in Allegheny Township, Pennsylvania, where he was a starter for two-and-a-half seasons on both sides of the ball (linebacker and fullback). Exodus is an American thrash metal band formed in 1979 in Richmond, California. Their current lineup consists of guitarists Gary Holt and Lee Altus, bassist Jack Gibson, drummer Tom Hunting, and lead vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza. There are no original members left in Exodus other than Hunting, who has departed from the band twice, in 1989 and 2004, but rejoined in 2007. Exodus is also notable for its inclusion of guitarist Kirk Hammett in its initial lineup; he eventually left the band in 1983 to join Metallica as Dave Mustaine's replacement. Patricia ("Pat") Jean McKillop, ''née'' Fraser, and now Buckle also simply known as Pat McKillop (born July 15, 1956) is a former field hockey player from Zimbabwe, who was a member of the national team that won the gold medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Because of the boycott led by the United States in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, only the Soviet team remained. The Soviets and international Olympic authorities then invited countries that had not qualified for the tournament. A late request was sent to the government of the African nation, which hastily assembled a team less than a week before the competition started. To everyone's surprise, they won. They defeated Poland 4-0, drew 2-2 with Czechoslovakia, won 2-0 over the host Soviet Union, drew 1-1 with India and lastly trounced Austria 4-1 to claim Zimbabwe's only medal in the 1980 Games. Michael Gerard McKillop (born 27 January 1990 in Ballymena, Northern Ireland) is an Irish middle distance runner. He competes in the T37 disability sport classification, as he has a mild form of cerebral palsy. He won the 800m title at the 2006 IPC Athletics World Championships, clocking just over 2:02. and he represented Ireland at the 2008 Summer Paralympics, winning a gold medal at the T37 800 m clipping almost three seconds off his previous mark as he strode to an emphatic win in 1:59.41. Hugh Cummings McKillop (26 November 1872 – 8 November 1937) was a Conservative member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in West Lorne, Ontario and became an industrialist and lumberman. He worked with A. McKillop and Sons Ltd. where he was vice-president at one point and was also president of West Elgin Milling and Produce Company. He had three brothers: Daniel McKillop, J.A. Robert McKillop (born July 13, 1950) is an American college basketball coach who is the former head coach of the Davidson Wildcats men's team of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Early basketball career Born in Queens, New York, McKillop grew up in Queens and on Long Island and played for Chaminade High School in Mineola. McKillop went on to play college ball for East Carolina University before transferring to Hofstra University. At Hofstra he was named team MVP. After graduating in 1972 with a degree in history, he was briefly signed as a free agent by the Philadelphia 76ers, but was cut.
