Gilbert McKechnie
Gilbert McKechnie (1842 – December 21, 1930) was a Scottish-born Ontario merchant and political figure. He represented Grey South in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1891 to 1894 as a Liberal member. He was born in Campbeltown, Argyleshire in 1845 and came to Canada West in 1855. He owned a general store and was also president of the G. B. & W. Railway. McKechnie represented Durham Township on the council for Grey County from 1877 to 1884 and in 1887. Vivienne McKechnie is an Irish writer and poet based in Limerick. She has also been an organiser of the Limerick Literary Festival. Biography Born Vivienne Darling in Dublin to Dr. Desmond Darling and Audrey Darling (née Butler), she had three sisters. McKechnie attended The Hall School, Monkstown, and then got her degree in Trinity College Dublin. Later McKechnie completed her Creative Writing MA in the University of Limerick. Vera McKechnie (born 1927) is a retired British presenter who was one of the first presenters at the start of BBC Children's Television in the early 1950s. Television career McKechnie began her career when the BBC resumed TV broadcasts after the Second World War. On BBC Children’s Television she narrated the earliest live editions of ''Andy Pandy'' from 1950, in which she told a story as it was acted out by string puppets. The programme was aimed at very young children under primary school starting age of five years at the time. Shirley Elizabeth McKechnie (18 June 1926 – 5 September 2022) was an Australian pioneer of contemporary dance as a dancer, choreographer, director and educator. Early life and education Born Shirley Elizabeth Gorham was born on 18 June 1926 in Melbourne, McKechnie was educated at Albion State School, followed by Williamstown High School. She took dance lessons from the age of four and began ballet at ten. Dr. Robert Edward McKechnie (April 25, 1861 – May 24, 1944) was a physician and the second chancellor of the University of British Columbia. Early life McKechnie was born in Brockville, Canada West, on April 25, 1861. After completing his secondary school education in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, he began his studies at McGill University in 1886. After receiving his medical degree from McGill in 1890, he moved to British Columbia the following year, and practiced medicine in the Nanaimo area for 10 years. Christina 'Licorice' McKechnie (born 2 October 1945) is a Scottish musician. She was a singer and songwriter in The Incredible String Band between 1968 and 1972. Her whereabouts have been publicly unknown since 1987, when she was last seen hitchhiking across the Arizona desert. Biography McKechnie was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. After reading her poetry at folk clubs in Edinburgh, she met the musician Robin Williamson, but left home in her teens with the intention of marrying Bert Jansch. John Roderick McKechnie KC (born 1 November 1950) is the Commissioner of the Corruption and Crime Commission of Western Australia. He is a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the highest ranking court in the Australian State of Western Australia, and formerly served as the State's first Director of Public Prosecutions. He attended Scotch College from 1963 until 1967, then graduated in law from the University of Western Australia in 1972.
