Suzie Azar
Suzanne Azar (''née'' Schmeck, born 1946) is a politician, aviator and former mayor of El Paso, Texas. Azar was the first woman to serve as mayor in El Paso. Azar lives in Central El Paso. She is also a flight instructor and owner of a fixed-base operator and flight school; and is a member of the women pilots' organization the Ninety-Nines. Azar has been inducted into the El Paso Women's Hall of Fame. Biography Azar was born in Bay City, Michigan in 1946 and as a young person was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. She moved to El Paso in 1970 and attended the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Azar was sworn into office as mayor of El Paso in 1989. Oscar Leeser
Oscar Leeser (born May 7, 1958) is an American politician who has served as the 52nd mayor of El Paso, Texas since 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as the 50th mayor from 2013 to 2017. Early life and education Oscar Leeser was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. In 1967, at the age of 9, he arrived in El Paso along with his six siblings. He graduated from Coronado High School in El Paso, Texas. Leeser worked alongside his father Arthur Leeser for 31 years at the Hyundai dealership in El Paso. Dee Margo
Donald "Dee" Margo (born February 4, 1952) is an American businessman and politician who served as the 51st mayor of El Paso, Texas from 2017 to 2021. Early life and education Margo graduated from Huntsville High School in Huntsville, Alabama. He accepted a football scholarship to Vanderbilt University and graduated in 1974 with a degree in history and economics. Career Margo moved to El Paso in 1977 from Nashville, Tennessee to join his father-in-law's insurance business, John D. Williams Company. In February 1981, six days after Margo’s 29th birthday, his father-in-law suffered a fatal heart attack. Margo purchased JDW from the estate and expanded the company from 6 employees to 70. John Cook (Texas Politician)
John F. Cook (born February 27, 1946) is an American businessman, veteran, civic leader, and member of the Paso Del Norte Group. Cook was Mayor of El Paso, Texas for two terms from 2005 to 2013. Due to the City Charter's term limits clause Cook was not eligible for a third term in 2013. Life and career Cook graduated from New York City's Immaculata High School in 1964. He attended the University of Texas at El Paso and earned a degree in business in 1977. In 1970, Cook married his wife Tram Cook, with whom he has six children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Cook has lived for most of his life in Northeast El Paso, where his family has owned and operated several businesses. Joe Wardy
Joseph D. Wardy (born 1953) is the former mayor of El Paso, Texas. He was elected mayor in 2003, when he unseated incumbent mayor Raymond Caballero. Wardy was defeated by John Cook in the 2005 mayoral election. Wardy, a businessman in the trucking industry, was generally regarded as favorable to business interests, in contrast to his predecessor's more confrontational stand against "big developers" and industries. Raymond Caballero
Raymond Caballero (born February 6, 1942) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the 47th mayor of El Paso from 2001 to 2003. He was elected in May 2001, defeating former mayor Larry Francis in a runoff election with 62.5% of the vote. He was the fourth Latino mayor of El Paso, following Raymond Telles (first elected 1957), Ray Salazar (1977) and Carlos Ramirez (1997). Reynaldo "Ray" Salazar (August 25, 1931 – April 28, 2016) was an American accountant, politician and veteran of the United States Navy, who served as the Mayor of El Paso, Texas, from 1977 until 1979. Salazar was El Paso's second Hispanic mayor, following Raymond Telles, who had previously held the office from 1957 to 1961. Biography Salazar was born in El Paso, Texas, in 1931 to Guadalupe Chaparro (Raul) and Reynaldo Salazar. Ralph Seitsinger
Ralph E. Seitsinger (January 13, 1916 – March 30, 2016) was an American businessman, furniture merchant and politician. He served as the 36th Mayor of El Paso, Texas, from 1961 until 1963. Under Mayor Seitsinger, his administration oversaw the development and early planning for several major infrastructure projects, including the North-South Freeway through downtown El Paso, Texas State Highway Loop 375 (the Border Highway), and the Lower Valley sewer plant.
