Maximillian Lu is an American chess player. Lu was the former youngest United States Chess Federation member to attain a master rating. At approximately nine-years and eleven-months of age Maximillian beat the previous record by twelve days. About a year later, this record was broken by Christopher Yoo. International Master
FIDE titles are awarded by the international chess governing body FIDE (''Fédération Internationale des Échecs'') for outstanding performance. The highest such title is Grandmaster (GM). Titles generally require a combination of Elo rating and norms (performance benchmarks in competitions including other titled players). The United States Chess Federation (also known as US Chess or USCF) is the governing body for chess competition in the United States and represents the U.S. in FIDE, the World Chess Federation. Christopher Woojin Yoo (born December 19, 2006) is an American chess grandmaster. He became the youngest International Master in American history in February 2019 until surpassed by Abhimanyu Mishra later in 2019. Chess career In March/April 2018, Yoo earned clear first place in the Charlotte Chess Center's Spring 2018 IM Norm Invitational held in Charlotte, North Carolina with a score of 6.0/9. Yoo also won the 2020 US Cadet (under-16) Championship. North American Youth Chess Championship
The North American Youth Chess Championship (NAYCC) is an annual chess tournament for participants under 18, first held in 2004 in Boca Raton, Florida. The tournament has 6 age brackets, in two-year increments, from U8 (under 8) to U18. For each age bracket, there is an open championship and a separate championship for girls. Since at least 2015, there is also a blitz tournament. In 2021, it was held in Chicago, Illinois. The reigning U18 champions are Dimitar Mardov (Open), Alice Lee (Girls), and Nico Chasin (Blitz). Awonder Liang (born April 9, 2003) is an American chess prodigy. He is the third youngest American to qualify for the title of Grandmaster (after Abhimanyu Mishra and Samuel Sevian), at the age of 14. Liang was twice world champion in his age category. Education Liang attended Madison West High School. For middle school, he went to Velma Hamilton middle school. He is now attending the University of Chicago.
