Mauritanian National Anthem
The national anthem of Mauritania ( ar, النشيد الوطني الموريتاني), also known by its incipit, "" ( en, "Land of the Proud, Guided by Noblemen"; french: "Pays des fiers, nobles guides"), was adopted on 16 November 2017 and was composed by Egyptian composer Rageh Daoud. History In March 2017, following a referendum to amend the constitution of July 1991, the Mauritanian National Assembly adopted a new national anthem to replace the previous one, which was considered almost impossible to sing. Lyrics The anthem currently has six verses, with a chorus repeated after each verse. The fifth verse (in brackets) is sung in an extended version of the anthem. It was first sung on the 57th independence day of Mauritania, on 28 November 2017. Mauritanian Music
The music of Mauritania comes predominantly from the country's largest ethnic group: the Moors. In Moorish society musicians occupy the lowest caste, iggawin. Musicians from this caste used song to praise successful warriors as well as their patrons. Iggawin also had the traditional role of messengers, spreading news between villages. In modern Mauritania, professional musicians are paid by anybody to perform; affluent patrons sometimes record the entertainment, rather than the musicians themselves, and are then considered to own the recording. Instruments Traditional instruments include an hourglass-shaped four-stringed lute called the tidinit and the woman's kora-like ardin. The seal of Mauritania ( ar, شعار الجمهورية الإسلامية الموريتانية, french: Sceau de la Mauritanie) is based on the national flag of Mauritania, which was adopted on 15 August 2017. It contains red, green, and gold emblems. The green symbolizes Islam, the major religion in the nation, the gold represents the sands of the Sahara desert, and the red represents the bloodshed of the people that fought for independence. Flag Of Mauritania
The flag of Mauritania ( ar, علم موريتانيا, french: Drapeau de la Mauritanie) is a green field containing a gold star and crescent, with two red stripes at the top and bottom of the field. The original national flag was introduced under the instructions of President Moktar Ould Daddah and the constitution of 22 March 1959 and was adopted on 1 April 1959. Accessed 27 August 2009. On 5 August 2017, a referendum was held by president Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz to change the national flag, abolish the senate, and other constitutional amendments. The referendum was successful, and the new flag, including two red horizontal stripes, which represent "the efforts and sacrifices that the people of Mauritania will keep consenting, to the price of their blood, to defend their territory", was adopted in time for its first raising on 28 November 2017, the 57th anniversary of Mauritania's independence from France. The Pleiades (), also known as The Seven Sisters, Messier 45 and other names by different cultures, is an asterism and an open star cluster containing middle-aged, hot B-type stars in the north-west of the constellation Taurus. Rageh Daoud
Rageh Sami Daoud ( ar, راجح داود; born November 23, 1954; first name also spelled Ragueh and last name also spelled Dawood) is an Egyptian composer of contemporary classical music. He is a member of that nation's third generation of such composers. He has composed for piano, voice, and orchestra, and has written a number of film scores. Life and career Rageh Daoud was born in Cairo. He began his studies at the Cairo Conservatoire at the age of nine, later studying composition there with Gamal Abdel-Rahim, graduating in 1977. He also studied piano with Ettore Puglisi. While continuing his piano studies with him, he attended the composition class which the late Gamal Abdel-Rahim had founded at the Conservatoire, where he studied with him composition, the theory of traditional Arab modes and contemporary composition.
