National Anthem Of Mauritania
The national anthem of Mauritania ( ar, النشيد الوطني الموريتاني), also known by its incipit, "" ( en, "Land of the Proud, Guided by Noblemen"; french: "Pays des fiers, nobles guides"), was adopted on 16 November 2017 and was composed by Egyptian composer Rageh Daoud. History In March 2017, following a referendum to amend the constitution of July 1991, the Mauritanian National Assembly adopted a new national anthem to replace the previous one, which was considered almost impossible to sing. Lyrics The anthem currently has six verses, with a chorus repeated after each verse. The fifth verse (in brackets) is sung in an extended version of the anthem. It was first sung on the 57th independence day of Mauritania, on 28 November 2017. The ouguiya ( ar, rtl=yes, 1=أوقية موريتانية, links=, lit=, translit= (); sign: UM; code: MRU), at one time spelled "ougiya", is the currency of Mauritania. Each ouguiya constitutes five khoums (meaning "one fifth"). As such it is one of two circulating currencies, along with the Malagasy ariary, whose division units are not based on a power of ten. The current ouguiya was introduced in 2018, replacing the old ouguiya at a rate of 1 new ouguiya = 10 old ouguiya, which in turn replaced the CFA franc at a rate of 1 old ouguiya = 5 francs. The National Assembly ( ar, الجمعية الوطنية; french: Assemblée Nationale) is the unicameral legislative house of the Parliament of Mauritania. The legislature currently has 157 members, elected for five-year terms in electoral districts or nationwide proportional lists. From 1961 until 1978, the only legal party in the country was the Mauritanian People's Party (french: Parti du Peuple Mauritanien, PPM). The legislature was disbanded after the 10 July 1978 coup. In 1992, a bicameral legislature was established, consisting the National Assembly and Senate of Mauritania. In the 1990s, a multiparty system was introduced in Mauritania.
