Maura Viceconte
Maura Viceconte (3 October 1967 – 10 February 2019) was an Italian long-distance runner who represented her native country twice (1996 and 2000) at the Summer Olympics. Biography Viceconte is best known for winning the bronze medal at the 1998 European Championships in Budapest, Hungary. She won three marathons during her career: Rome (1999), Vienna (2000), and Prague (2001). Her personal best time of 2:23:47 hours set at the Vienna City Marathon in 2000 stood as the Italian national record until April 2012, when it was beaten by Valeria Straneo. Rome City Marathon
The Rome Marathon is an annual marathon competition hosted by the city of Rome, Italy. History The competition has also doubled as the Italian Marathon championships on two occasions; in 1983 and 1986. The race date was shifted from the traditional March schedule to 1 January in 2000 for a special edition of the event to celebrate the beginning of the new millennium. The ''IAAF Rome Millennium Marathon'' received the support of Primo Nebiolo and national federation president Gianni Gola. Carpi, Italy
Carpi (; ) is an Italian town and ''comune'' of about 71,000 inhabitants in the province of Modena, Emilia-Romagna. It is a busy centre for industrial and craft activities and for cultural and commercial exchanges. Monaco Marathon
The Monaco Marathon or the Monaco and the Riviera Marathon (French: ''Marathon de Monaco et des Riviera'') is a marathon run every year starting and finishing in Monaco. It crosses the border to France and Italy and goes along the coast to a turning point in Ventimiglia, Italy and back again to Monaco. There is also a 10 km race run entirely inside Monaco. The marathon is run in March every year. In 2009 there were around 700 marathon participants, plus around 1000 participants in the 10 km race. Due to the race's coincidence with French regional elections in 2010, the event was shortened to a half marathon, and Dennis Mehlfeld of Germany and American runner Heidi Freitag won the men's and women's races, respectively. Athletics At The 1996 Summer Olympics – Women's Marathon
The women's marathon at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta was held on Sunday July 28, 1996, beginning at 07:05h local time. Sixty-five athletes finished the race while twenty-one dropped out mid-competition. A total of 86 competitors from 51 countries took part. There were also two competitors, Valentina Enachi of Moldova and Virginie Gloum of the Central African Republic, whose results were deemed unofficial due to procedural errors by their federations in submitting their entries in the event.
