Matti Schmid
Matthias Schmid (born 18 November 1997) is a German professional golfer. He won the European Amateur in both 2019 and 2020 and was the leading amateur at the 2021 Open Championship. Amateur career Schmid competed for the Louisville Cardinals from 2017 to 2021, winning the Old Town Club Collegiate in 2018. Schmid won the European Amateur in both 2019 and 2020. The 2019 event was held at the Diamond Country Club in Austria. Schmid led after a third-round 63 and won by three strokes from Euan Walker. He retained the title at Zurich Golf and Country Club in Switzerland in September 2020, again winning by three strokes, this time from fellow-German Nick Bachem. In the 2021 Open Championship, Schmid had a second-round 65 to equal the record for the lowest round by an amateur in the Open Championship; a record set by Tom Lewis in 2011, also at Royal St George's. 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup
The 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup was a team golf competition held from June 11–13, 2021 at Rich Harvest Farms, Sugar Grove, Illinois. It was the 25th time the event had been contested and the fourth under the new format in which women golfers played in addition to men, and the United States played an international team. The United States team won the match 33–27. Format The contest was played over three days. On Friday, there were 12 mixed four-ball matches. On Saturday there were 24 foursomes matches, 12 in the morning, six all-women matches and six all-men matches, and 12 mixed matches in the afternoon. 24 singles matches were played on Sunday. In all, 60 matches were played. Each of the 60 matches was worth one point in the larger team competition. 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup
The 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup was a team golf competition held from December 21–23, 2020 at Bay Hill Club and Lodge, Bay Hill, Florida. It was the 24th time the event had been contested and the third under the new format in which women golfers played in addition to men and an international team, representing the rest of the world, replaced the European team. The international team won the match 40½–19½. The event was originally planned to be played at Lahinch Golf Club, Lahinch, Ireland from July 3–5 but was moved because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Arnold Palmer Cup
The Arnold Palmer Cup is an annual team golf competition for college/university golfers. From 2018 it has been contested between a United States team and an International team representing the rest of the world. The teams consist of 12 men and 12 women. The teams are selected on the basis of nationality, not according to the location of the players' universities. The 2023 event will be held from June 10 to 12 at Laurel Valley Golf Club, near Ligonier, Pennsylvania. History From its foundation in 1997 until 2017 the event was only contested by men. The 2021 European Amateur Team Championship took place 6–10 July at PGA Catalunya in Spain. It was the 38th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. The event was originally intended to be played at Vasatorp Golf Club in Sweden but was moved because of travel restriction concerns. Format Each team consisted of six players. On the first two days each player played 18 holes of stroke play each day. The lowest five scores from each team’s six players counted to the team total each day. The 2020 European Amateur Team Championship took place 10–12 September at Hilversumsche Golf Club in the Netherlands. It was the 37th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The club was founded in 1895, as the fourth golf club in the Netherlands. Its present course consists of nine holes opened in 1918, designed by Henry Burrows, and nine holes opened in 1928, designed by Harry Colt.
