2021 Arnold Palmer Cup
The 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup was a team golf competition held from June 11–13, 2021 at Rich Harvest Farms, Sugar Grove, Illinois. It was the 25th time the event had been contested and the fourth under the new format in which women golfers played in addition to men, and the United States played an international team. The United States team won the match 33–27. Format The contest was played over three days. On Friday, there were 12 mixed four-ball matches. On Saturday there were 24 foursomes matches, 12 in the morning, six all-women matches and six all-men matches, and 12 mixed matches in the afternoon. 24 singles matches were played on Sunday. In all, 60 matches were played. Each of the 60 matches was worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match was all square after the 18th hole, each side earned half a point toward their team total. The team that accumulated at least 30½ points won the competition. Rich Harvest Farms is a private golf course and country club near Sugar Grove, Illinois, about west of downtown Chicago. Built in 1989 and expanded in 1999, the 18-hole championship golf course is on an expansive . Owner Jerome "Jerry" Rich, the estate's owner and president, is a self-made businessman and alumnus of Northern Illinois University. Rich's father, Anthony "AJ" Rich started his own company – Rich Inc – where Jerry went to work after graduation. Not long after he started working for his father's company, he invented a method to incorporate many separate stock exchange software programs into one, putting Rich Inc. on the map. Gina Kim (born May 4, 2000) is an American professional golfer. Background Kim was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to parents of Korean origin. They moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, when Gina was age 3. She took up golfing at age 7, encouraged by her parents, who both played golf before becoming professors at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. By mid-2014 and at age 14, she was ranked the No. 1 female junior golfer (under 18) in North Carolina. The Nebraska Cornhuskers (often abbreviated to Huskers) are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Kathryn Elizabeth Smith (May 1, 1907 – June 17, 1986) was an American contralto. Referred to as The First Lady of Radio, Smith is well known for her renditions of "God Bless America" and "When the Moon Comes over the Mountain". Rachel Kuehn (born June 6, 2001) is an American amateur golfer. Early life and family Kuehn was born 2001 in Asheville, North Carolina to an athletic family. Her grandfather Jack Corrie represented Venezuela in the 1958 Eisenhower Trophy and played golf and basketball at MIT. Her mother, Brenda Corrie Kuehn, was a Hall of Fame golfer at Wake Forest and represented both her native Dominican Republic and the USA in the Espirito Santo Trophy a total of four times, as well as two Curtis Cups. Her father, Eric, and two uncles were Division I baseball players. Her brother Corrie played collegiate golf at Rhodes College. Kuehn herself was a state champion in tennis before focusing on golf.
