Yasmin Ahmad
Yasmin binti Ahmad (7 January 1958 – 25 July 2009) was a Malaysian film director, writer and scriptwriter. She was the executive creative director at Leo Burnett Kuala Lumpur. Her television commercials and films are well known in Malaysia for being humorous and touching. Her work crossed cross-cultural barriers, particularly her ads for Petronas, the national oil and gas company. Her works have won multiple awards both within Malaysia and internationally. In Malaysia, her films were highly controversial due to their depiction of events and relationships, which have been considered 'forbidden' by social conservatives, especially hard-line interpretations of Islam. ''Pisau Cukur'' (Malay: " Razor Knife", but also metaphorically "Gold Digger") is a 2009 Malaysian mystery comedy film directed by Bernard Chauly, which is his first comedy after his 2005 blockbuster break-out drama '' Gol & Gincu''. It stars popular Malaysian actresses Nur Fazura and Maya Karin, and also Singaporean actor Aaron Aziz. Plot "Pisau Cukur" is about two best friends Bella (Maya Karin) and Intan ( Nur Fazura) who goes on a vacation in a cruise ship. During the vacation, Bella searches for a rich husband, while Intan is involved in a murder case of a well known Datuk. Charlene Rajendran
Charlene Rajendran (born 1964 in Malacca) is a Malaysian writer based in Singapore. She currently teaches theatre at the Nanyang Technological University. Published works Rajendran's first book was a collection of poetry called ''Mangosteen Crumble'' (Team East, 1999). It explored issues of identity and difference, often by using Malaysian English syntax. It is now out of print, and the entire contents have been placed online. Her second book was ''Taxi Tales on a Crooked Bridge'' ( Matahari Books, 2009), a non-fiction book based on her conversations with the taxi-drivers of Singapore, where she now lives.
