Mashadi Zeynal
Mashadi Zeynal Hagverdiyev ( az, Məşədi Zeynal Haqverdiyev; 1850s – 1918) was an Azerbaijani musician and one of the first tar players in Azerbaijani music. Biography Mashadi Zeynal Hagverdiyev was born in the 1850s (according to some sources in 1861) in the village of Karkijahan of Shusha uezd. During his education years at Shusha Realni School, he grew up in the environment of Azerbaijani cultural figures such as Firidun bey Kocharli, Yusif bey Malikhagnazarov, Azad bey Amirov, Karim bey Mehmandarov, Najaf bey Vazirov, Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev and Jabbar Garyaghdioglu. Mashadi took lessons from Ali Asgar and Sadigjan, well-known artists of his era, and participated in Shusha musical gatherings from a young age. Karkijahan, Nagorno-Karabakh
Krkjan ( hy, Քրքջան) or Karkijahan ( az, Kərkicahan) is a settlement near the city of Stepanakert. The village had an Armenian-majority population prior to the Khaibalikend massacre in 1919 and subsequently an Azerbaijani-majority population prior to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in 1988. History Pre-Soviet period In 1886, the village had an Armenian-majority population, consisting entirely of farmers. Firudin Shushinski
Firudin Shushinski (born Firudin Mammad oglu Hasanov, 20 October, 1925 – 25 October, 1997) was an Azerbaijani scholar and musicologist who researched Azerbaijani folk music. Shushinski authored more than 400 articles and essays. Early life Born in Shusha, Shushinski studied the history of that town which culminated in his book ''Shusha'' published in 1968. Shushinski's father was a friend of Firidun bey Kocharli and named his son after him. In 1931, Shushinski started to take violin classes in Shusha musical school. In 1942, during World War II he volunteered for the military and participated in the Battle of Kursk under Soviet General Batov. For his military service, Shushinski was awarded the Medal "For Courage" and the Order of the Red Banner. ''Leyli and Majnun'' ( az, Leyli və Məcnun) is an opera in four acts by Uzeyir Hajibeyov, to an Azerbaijani libretto written by the composer and his brother Jeyhun Hajibeyov. Seyid Shushinski
Seyid Shushinski ( az, Seyid Şuşinski), born Mir Mohsun Seyid Ibrahim oglu Shushinski (12 April 1889, Horadiz – 1 November 1965, Baku), was an Azerbaijani khananda folk singer. Early career He was born in the small town of Horadiz, near present-day Fizuli, Azerbaijan. He lost his father at a young age, and was raised by his aunt Meshadi Khurzad who was a folk singer. Shushinski received primary education at a religious school in his hometown. Thanks to his musical talent, he joined his first musical ensemble at the age of 15. Majid Behbudov
Majid Behbudali oghlu Behbudov ( az, Behbudov Məcid Behbudalı oğlu, 18 April 1873 — 6 September 1945) is an Azerbaijani khananda. Biography Majid Behbudov was born on April 18, 1873, in Shusha. According to Jalil bey Bagdadbeyov, he started singing in 1904. He had previously sung with tar player Tatevos and kamancha player Makich in the Karabakh and Ganja assemblies, and later in the villages and towns of the Caucasus. Majid Behbudov sang for many years with tar players Mashadi Zeynal, Rzabala and kamancha player Ruben Garakhanov at the Dvoryansky Club in Tbilisi.
