Mary Help Of Christians Cathedral, Fuerte Olimpo
The Mary Help of Christians Cathedral ( es, Catedral de María Auxiliadora ) also called Fuerte Olimpo Cathedral is the name given to a temple belonging to the Catholic Church and is located in the city of Fuerte Olimpo the capital of the department of Alto Paraguay in northern part of South American country of Paraguay, near the border with Brazil. The temple follows the Roman or Latin rite and functions as the headquarters of the Apostolic Vicariate of Chaco Paraguayo (''Vicariatus Apostolicus Ciachensis in Paraquaria Natione'') which was created in March 1948 with the Bull "Quo in Paraguayana" of Pope Pius XII. The present structure was started in 1920 but was paralyzed by lack of funds, retomandose work in 1949 and be completed in 1965 under the leadership of Bishop Angel Muzzolon who is buried in the church. Fuerte Olimpo
Fuerte Olimpo () is a city in Paraguay. It is the capital of the department of Alto Paraguay. Straddling the river Paraguay which forms the border with Brazil, Fuerte Olimpo is Paraguay's northernmost departmental capital, located over 830 km (515 mi) north of the capital Asunción. It was originally called Fuerte Borbón. The city is also known as “la puerta de entrada al Pantanal”, or entrance to the Pantanal region. Fuerte Olimpo is on east of Chaco Boreal on east shore of Paraguay River near the mouth of Blanco River, to the north the moist ground called humedales from the Gran Pantanal. Fuerte Olimpo is far away from the flood area. The city is surrounded by a wall 4 km long. Geography This plain is almost 300 metres above the sea level. Alto Paraguay (; ''Upper Paraguay'') is the least populous as well as a sparsely populated department of Paraguay. The capital is the town of Fuerte Olimpo. In 1992, the Chaco Department was merged with Alto Paraguay.
