Forwards (also known as attackers) are outfield positions in an association football team who play the furthest up the pitch and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals as well as assisting them. As with any attacking player, the role of the forward relies heavily on being able to create space for attack. The Peru women's national football team represents Peru in international women's football and is controlled by the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) (Federación Peruana de Fútbol in Spanish) as a part of the CONMEBOL federation. Peru's best result in major international competitions was in the 1998 Sudamericano Femenino, where they achieved third place. ''La Blanquirroja'' is coached by Marta Tejedor and plays the majority of its games in the Estadio Nacional. 2003 South American Women's Football Championship
The 2003 South American Women's Football Championship (''Campeonato Sudamericano de Fútbol Femenino 2003'') was the fourth staging of the South American Women's Football Championship and determined the CONMEBOL's qualifiers for the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup. The tournament was held between April 9 and April 27. Originally, the competition was scheduled to take place from April 5 to April 16, 2002 in Córdoba, Argentina. Later, it was moved to Peru, January/February 2003, with Lima and Chincha as venues, only for group A and the final round. Argentina retained the hosting rights for group C while Ecuador was appointed as host of the group B. Brazil won the tournament for the fourth time in a row, after finishing first in the final round. Estadio Monumental "U"
The Estadio Monumental (''Monumental Stadium'') is a football stadium in the district of Ate in Lima, Peru. It is the home of Club Universitario de Deportes, and it was opened in 2000 to replace the Estadio Teodoro Lolo Fernandez. Its only legal owner is the club itself. Designed by Progreso International and Gremco S.A., Uruguayan architect Walter Lavalleja Sarriés led the construction of the stadium. At the time of its construction, it became Peru's largest stadium and also the 5th largest in South America. Since its expansion to 80,000 capacity in early 2020s, it has become the largest stadium by seating capacity on the continent.
