Mark Allen Pody (born April 23, 1956) is an American politician, elected as a Republican member of the Tennessee Senate from the 17th district, encompassing Cannon County, Clay County, Dekalb County, Macon County, Smith County and Wilson County. Pody resides in Lebanon, Tennessee. Early life Mark Allen Pody was born on April 23, 1956 in Spokane, Washington. Tennessee's 17th Senate district is one of 33 districts in the Tennessee Senate. It has been represented by Republican Mark Pody since a 2017 special election to replace fellow Republican Mae Beavers. Geography District 17 covers rural and suburban Middle Tennessee to the east of Nashville, including all of Cannon, Clay, DeKalb, Macon, Smith, and Wilson Counties. Communities in the district include Mount Juliet, Lebanon, Smithville, Lafayette, Carthage, Woodbury, Celina, and Green Hill. Watertown, Tennessee
Watertown is a town located in Wilson County, Tennessee. The population was 1,477 at the 2010 census .The population then raised to 1,556 after the 2020 census. It is located southeast of Lebanon, and northwest of Smithville. History Prior to the town's establishment, the land was a Revolutionary War grant to Colonel Archibald Lytle and his brother William. ''Circa'' 1790, the grandparents of Watertown's founder, Wilson L. Waters, moved into the area. In 1845, the post office moved from nearby Three Forks to Wilson's store. Waters expanded his operations with a sawmill, gristmill and blacksmith shop. Waters' farm eventually became Watertown. The Nashville and Knoxville Railroad built a depot in Watertown in 1885, making it the hub of business in the area. The increased business led to a doubling of the village's size. Fugitive Slave Act Of 1850
The Fugitive Slave Act or Fugitive Slave Law was passed by the United States Congress on September 18, 1850, as part of the Compromise of 1850 between Southern interests in slavery and Northern Free-Soilers. The Act was one of the most controversial elements of the 1850 compromise and heightened Northern fears of a slave power conspiracy. It required that all escaped slaves, upon capture, be returned to the slaver and that officials and citizens of free states had to cooperate. Abolitionists nicknamed it the "Bloodhound Bill", after the dogs that were used to track down people fleeing from slavery. The Act contributed to the growing polarization of the country over the issue of slavery, and was one of the factors that led to the Civil War. WPLN-FM (90.3 FM), is a National Public Radio-affiliated station in Nashville, Tennessee.
