Marielund, Uppsala
Marielund is a village in Uppsala County, Sweden. The village is about 59 kilometers (36 miles) north of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. It is 14 km east of Uppsala and has historic wooden houses in the Art Nouveau and National Romantic style, National Romantic styles. There are houses of varying size, mostly built during 1890–1930. The Marielund railway station is on the Upsala-Lenna Jernväg ("Lennakatten") heritage narrow-gauge railway. Art Nouveau (; ) is an international style of art, architecture, and applied art, especially the decorative arts. National Romantic Style
The National Romantic style was a Nordic architectural style that was part of the National Romantic movement during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is often considered to be a form of Art Nouveau. The National Romantic style spread across Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia, as well as Russia, where it also appeared as Russian Revival architecture. Upsala-Lenna Järnväg (ULJ) (literally: ''Upsala-Lenna Railway'', also nicknamed ''Lennakatten'') is a narrow-gauge heritage railway in Uppsala County, Sweden. It is long and is a part of the once extensive Roslagen network. The gauge is the , unique to Sweden. The railway is run by the SRJmf society. History The railway between Uppsala and Lenna (old spelling of Länna) was opened in 1876 and was the first of all railways in the region. It was built to serve the ironworks at Länna with a connection to the railroad network. The choice of gauge was somewhat of a compromise, would have sufficed for the ore and steel traffic but with only a slight increase in budget allowed the greater capacity to carry passengers, mail and other goods.
