Mareeg (also known as Mareg, Meregh and Märēg) is a locality in the Galguduud region of central Somalia, in the Galmudug state. Ajuran Sultanate
The Ajuran Sultanate ( so, Saldanadda Ajuuraan, ar, سلطنة الأجورانية), also natively referred-to as Ajuuraan, and often simply Ajuran, was a Somali Empire in the Middle Ages in the Horn of Africa that dominated the trade in the northern Indian ocean. They belonged to the Somali Muslim sultanate that ruled over large parts of the Horn of Africa in the Middle Ages. Daud Abdulle Hirsi
General Daud Abdulle Hirsi ( so, Daa'uud Cabdulle Xirsi, ar, داود عبد الله حرسي; 1925–1965) was a Somali police and military officer, who went on to become first Commander of the Somali Armed Forces.Bildhaan, p. 64. Biography Hirsi was born in 1925 in the town of Mareeg situated in central Somalia. He later joined the military, and eventually rose to the rank of Commander-in-Chief of the nascent Somali National Army (Ciidamadda Xoogga Dalka Soomaaliyeed), the first position of its kind. Following Somalia's independence in 1960, Hirsi became Minister of Defence in the country's new civilian administration. Hirsi died shortly thereafter in 1965 in Moscow, Russia. Several primary and secondary schools in addition to a main street in Mogadishu, the nation's capital, are named after him. Osman Haji Mohamed ( so, Cismaan Xaaji Maxamed, ar, عثمان حاجي محمد) (b. 1920 – d. July 28, 1975), also known as Osman Baketti, was a Somali politician. He was a prominent figure in the government of the Trust Territory of Somalia and the succeeding civilian administration of independent Somalia. Early years Osman was born in 1920 in the town of Mareeg, situated in the El Dher District in central Somalia. The son of prominent local figure and hero Mohamed Afrah Garuun, he attended madrassahs in El Dher, before enrolling in a school in Mogadishu. Growing up, he enjoyed reading poetry, running and horseback riding. Career Osman joined the Somali Youth League (SYL) in 1944, prior to entering parliament. Galguduud ( so, Galgaduud, ar, جلجدود, it, Galgudud or ''Ghelgudud'') is an administrative region ('' gobol'') of Galmudug state in central Somalia. Its administrative capital is Dusmareb. The largest town in the region is Abudwak, which lies on the north-westernmost point of the region.
