Manila, Utah
Manila is a small city located on the northern edge of Daggett County, Utah, United States, just south of the Wyoming border. The town is at the junction of State Route 43 and State Route 44, and is the county seat of Daggett County. Nearby sites include the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area and the Flaming Gorge Reservoir just east of town, and to the south is Ashley National Forest, which includes Kings Peak (13,528 ft), the highest point in Utah. The population of Manila was 310 at the 2010 census. The settlement was named in 1898, commemorating the American naval victory at the Battle of Manila Bay in the Philippines. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 308 people, 105 households, and 66 families residing in the town. The population density was 379.3 people per square mile (146.8/km2). Utah State Route 43
State Route 43 (SR-43) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Utah. Running for , the highway is a Utah connection between Wyoming Highways 414 and 530 (where the routes both end at their southern terminus). While running east–west from border-to-border, the route passes through Manila. The road became a state highway in 1918, and was assigned a number in 1927. In 1960, due to the construction of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir, a portion was realigned. Route description The route begins at the Wyoming border southeast of McKinnon and continues south as a two-lane road before turning southeast. When it intersects Birch Creek Road, the route curves to the east. Before the junction of Bennion Lane southwest of Manila, the highway turns northeast to enter through the south side of Manila. The Battle of Manila Bay ( fil, Labanan sa Look ng Maynila; es, Batalla de Bahía de Manila), also known as the Battle of Cavite, took place on 1 May 1898, during the Spanish–American War. Ashley National Forest
Ashley National Forest is a National Forest located in northeastern Utah and southwestern Wyoming. Within the Forest's bounds are (with in Utah and in Wyoming) of vast forests, lakes, and mountains, with elevations ranging from . The forest covers portions of Daggett, Duchesne, Summit, Uintah, and Utah counties in Utah and Sweetwater County in Wyoming. Flaming Gorge Reservoir
Flaming Gorge Reservoir is the largest reservoir in Wyoming, on the Green River, impounded behind the Flaming Gorge Dam. Construction on the dam began in 1958 and was completed in 1964. The reservoir stores of water when measured at an elevation of above sea-level (maximum). Location The reservoir is mainly in southwest Wyoming and partially in northeastern Utah. The northern tip of the reservoir is southeast of Green River, Wyoming, southwest of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and the Southern tip is approximately north of Vernal, Utah.
