Mangoplah Football Club
The Mangoplah Football Club is an Australian Rules Football club. It competes in and around the Wagga Wagga area in New South Wales, Australia. The Mangoplah Football Club was founded in 1913 by D J Lloyd, who became the club's first captain. In 1955 the club merged with Cookardinia United FC. History Early years * 1913 - first documented game in August against Cookardinia * 1914 - first official competitive match in the Yerong Creek & District Football Association for the Webster Cup against Cookardinia, Henty, The Rock and Yerong Creek. Mangoplah lost to Cookardinia. Mangoplah Football Team Which Won The A
Mangoplah is a town approximately south of Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. At the 2016 census, Mangoplah had a population of 309. The name of the town is believed to mean "Kooris singing" in the Wiradjuri aboriginal language. History The first bridge in Mangoplah was built in 1862 from funding of £700 by the NSW Government over Phillitop & Old Man Creek. In 1865, A parcel of Crown land in Mangoplah was allocated for public purposes to the Wesleyan Church. In 1866, Thomas Jones was the Licensee of the Mangoplah Inn and was sold to Mrs Ann Hyland in 1868. Around 1880, the Mangoplah Inn, became known as Richard Curry's Mangoplah Inn. During the 1860s and 1870s, Mangoplah use to hold an annual horse race meeting, on the anniversary of the colony in January each year, according to annual custom, at Mrs Hyland's Mangoplah Inn. Tim Archer
Thomas Timothy Archer (13 February 1897 – 24 September 1990) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). In 1925, Archer was appointed as coach of the Hume Weir Football Club in the Ovens and Murray Football League The Ovens and Murray Football Netball League (O&MFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball competition containing ten clubs based in north-eastern Victoria, Australia, Victoria, the southern Riverina region of New South Wales, Austral .... Christopher "Chris" James Daniher (born 31 March 1966) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). His brothers Terry, Neale and Anthony also played for Essendon in the AFL. Early life and childhood Chris was born the sixth child of James "Jim" Daniher and Edna Daniher (née Erwin) on 31 March 1966 at West Wyalong Base Hospital. Chris attended St Joseph's Catholic School, Ungarie for his primary education before going to Ungarie Central School until year ten, after which he became a farmer. Mark Conway (Australian Footballer)
Mark Conway (born 20 May 1973) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Port Adelaide in the Australian Football League (AFL). Conway, a tall forward, topped Central District's goal-kicking in 1996, with 57 goals. When Port Adelaide formed a squad for their inaugural AFL season, Conway was picked up from Central District as a zone selection, along with teammates Jarrod Cotton, Stuart Dew and Nathan Steinberner. Nathon Irvin
Nathon Irvin (born 31 January 1973) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). Irvin came to Sydney from Mangoplah, near Wagga Wagga. A defender, he played just one senior AFL game for the Swans, against Hawthorn Football Club, Hawthorn in round two of the 1993 AFL season. In the 1994 AFL Draft, 1994 National Draft he was secured by Western Bulldogs, Footscray, but he would not make any league appearances for the club. He played for three South Australian National Football League clubs, first Norwood Football Club, Norwood, followed by Sturt Football Club, Sturt and then Glenelg Football Club, Glenelg. Michael Phyland (born 29 September 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Sydney Swans in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Matthew Lloyd (born 9 August 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Sydney Swans in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). He now works in the travel industry. Lloyd, who grew up in Mangoplah, played originally for Mangoplah Cookardinia United. After completing his schooling in Wagga Wagga, Lloyd moved to Sydney in 1984 and joined the Swans. He won a reserves best and fairest in 1986 and made his senior debut in Sydney's Round 7 win over reigning premiers Hawthorn in the 1987 VFL season. Merv Neagle
Mervyn Neagle (7 March 195823 August 2012) was an Australian rules footballer who represented and in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1970s and 1980s. Early life Neagle grew up in Dimboola, a country town in western Victoria. There he formed a lifelong friendship with future teammate Tim Watson. They played junior football and basketball, and shared a paper round. Football career Essendon Neagle joined , in 1976, preceding Watson who joined the club the following year as a 15-year-old. Steven Hedley
Steven Hedley (born 12 September 1959) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Sydney in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Originally from the Wodonga Football Club, he won the Ovens and Murray Football League Under 18 Best and Fairest Award in 1975. The following year he won Wodonga’s reserves best and fairest, played a few senior matches and the next year claimed the Ted West Memorial Trophy for the Bulldogs’ senior best and fairest. He moved to Queensland and starred for Mayne Football Club before coming back to Wodonga for the 1981 season. Hedley was instrumental in Wodonga’s premiership victory that year, winning a feast of possessions as the Bulldogs turned around a 20-goal loss to Albury in the second semi-final. Graham Ion
Graham Ion (born 12 October 1940) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Ion made his league debut at just 17 years of age, against Melbourne at Western Oval in 1958. It was his only game of the season, but he was a regular member of the team from 1959. A key forward despite his small stature, he kicked 27 goals in 1961 to finish third in Footscray's goal-kicking. He played all 21 games that year, including the 1961 VFL Grand Final loss, where he played at centre half-forward. When Ted Whitten was away playing interstate football, Ion captained Footscray in their round 13 fixture against North Melbourne - he was only 20 years old at the time. Colin Frank Slater (12 April 1934 – 17 May 2000) was a former Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Slater played at Ringwood for three years in the Eastern Suburban Football League, then onto Richmond in 1953.
