Matt Lloyd (footballer)
Matthew Lloyd (born 9 August 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Sydney Swans in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). He now works in the travel industry. Lloyd, who grew up in Mangoplah, played originally for Mangoplah Cookardinia United. After completing his schooling in Wagga Wagga, Lloyd moved to Sydney in 1984 and joined the Swans. He won a reserves best and fairest in 1986 and made his senior debut in Sydney's Round 7 win over reigning premiers Hawthorn in the 1987 VFL season. His nine appearances in 1988 would be the most he played in a single season, and he ended his career with Sydney in 1991 after 22 games. Mangoplah
Mangoplah is a town approximately south of Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. At the 2016 census, Mangoplah had a population of 309. The name of the town is believed to mean "Kooris singing" in the Wiradjuri aboriginal language. History The first bridge in Mangoplah was built in 1862 from funding of £700 by the NSW Government over Phillitop & Old Man Creek. Sydney Swans
The Sydney Swans are a professional Australian rules football club based in Sydney, New South Wales. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Swans also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). The club's origins trace back to 21 March 1873, when a meeting was held at the Clarendon Hotel in South Melbourne to establishing a junior football club, to be called the South Melbourne Football Club. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990. Best And Fairest
In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. In each game, the umpires award three votes to the player they judge to be the best afield in that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third-best player. The votes are counted at a gala function on the Monday preceding the Grand Final. The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded in 1902 in the inner-east suburb of Hawthorn, making it the youngest Victorian-based team in the AFL. AFL Sydney is an Australian rules football League, based in metropolitan Sydney, Australia. The AFL Sydney competition comprises 126 teams from 22 clubs which play across seven senior men's divisions, five women's divisions, a Master's Division and two under 19 competitions in season 2022. Sydney University Australian National Football Club
Sydney University Australian National Football Club (SUANFC) was founded in 1865 and is the oldest Australian rules football club in New South Wales. This claim is based on the club being a spin-off from Sydney University Football Club, Australia's oldest rugby union club, which experimented with Australian rules in its early years. SUANFC did not play its first official game until 1887. Old Xaverians Football Club
The Old Xaverians Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Kew, an inner suburb of Melbourne. The club was established in 1923 by alumni of Jesuit school Xavier College in Kew. The club is one of the most successful in the Victorian Amateur Football Association, having won 14 VAFA Premier Section flags, with its first in 1981. It won an unprecedented six premierships in six years between 1995-2000. The OXFC currently fields nine teams in the VAFA competition (seven men's, two women's).
