Manchester State Park (California)
Manchester State Park (also known as Manchester State Beach) is a state park of California, United States. It includes of protected beachfront on the Pacific Ocean in Northern California on State Route 1, north of Point Arena. The park features sand dunes, flat grasslands and five miles of gentle, sandy beachfront. The park is noted for steelhead and salmon fishing in the park's two streams, Brush Creek and Alder Creek, as well as the driftwood that collects in the catch basin created by the gently curved coastline. The site was established as a California state park in 1955 and takes its name from Manchester, California, seven miles north of Point Arena. Aside from the coastal views, Manchester State Beach consists of grazing lands with flocks of sheep, and herds of cattle. Blue Irises, baby blue eyes, lupines, poppies, and sea pinks are featured in the park’s variety of wildflowers. Just off shore, the San Andreas Fault runs into the waters of the park. Point Arena Light is a lighthouse in Mendocino County, California, Mendocino County, California, United States, two miles (3 km) north of Point Arena, California. Pomo People
The Pomo are an Indigenous people of California. Historical Pomo territory in Northern California was large, bordered by the Pacific Coast to the west, extending inland to Clear Lake, and mainly between Cleone and Duncans Point. One small group, the Northeastern Pomo, lived in the vicinity of present-day Stonyford in Colusa County, separated from the core Pomo area by lands inhabited by Yuki and Wintuan speakers. The name Pomo derives from a conflation of the Pomo words and . It originally meant "those who live at red earth hole" and was once the name of a village in southern Potter Valley near the present-day community of Pomo, California in Mendocino County. It may have referred to local deposits of the red mineral magnesite, used for red beads, or to the reddish earth and clay, such as hematite, mined in the area.
