Malootty
''Malootty'' is a 1990 Indian Malayalam-language survival drama film directed by Bharathan, starring Jayaram, Urvashi, and Shamili. The story is set in the 1980s, in which a girl is trapped in a drill hole and survives after many hours. The title drawings were done by Bharathan's son. Shamili won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist. It was based on the 1989 American television film '' Everybody's Baby: The Rescue of Jessica McClure''. Plot Five-year-old Malootty is the only child of Raji and Unnikrishnan, who is on her vacation with them. Events take a tragic turn when she visits a vacation home, suddenly falls into a drill hole, and becomes stuck inside while playing ball with her dog. Unnikrishnan struggles to save her. Shamili
Shamlee, also known as Baby Shamili/Shamlee, (born 10 July 1987), is an Indian actress who has worked in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam films. Her roles include the mentally challenged child Anjali in the 1990 film '' Anjali'', for which she won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist, and a child trapped inside a bore-well in the film '' Malootty'', which won her a Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist. Bharathan (14 November 1946 – 30 July 1998) was an Indian film maker, artist, and art director. Bharathan is noted for being the founder of a new school of film making in Malayalam cinema, along with Padmarajan and K. G. George, in the 1980s, which created films that were widely received while also being critically acclaimed. A train of directors, and screenwriters followed this school onto the 1990s including Sibi Malayil, Kamal, Lohithadas and Jayaraj. Venugopal (born 26 August 1961), popularly known as Venu, is an Indian cinematographer and film director who works mainly in Malayalam cinema. An alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and CMS college Kottayam. He has been the recipient of four National Film Awards, including three for Best Cinematography and one Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director, and four Kerala State Film Awards. John Paul (29 October 1950 – 23 April 2022) was an Indian scriptwriter, producer, author and actor who worked in Malayalam cinema. He is best known for his work in 1980s and early 1990s.
