Magnolia Hernandezii
''Magnolia hernandezii'' is a species of plant in the family Magnoliaceae. It is endemic to Colombia. The tree can attain an height of up to 40 m and trunk diameter approaching 1 m with smooth, light-brown or light-grey bark. It has a woody, globular fruit with up to 15 cm diameter. The Species is being investigated by a conservation and propagation research program implemented by Technical University of Pereira with support bBotanical Gardens Conservation International Locally called molinillo, the tree is endemic to the Cauca river watershed and surroundings, from Antioquia department to the South of Valle department. It is distributed between 1700 and 2600 m. Currently the species only occurs in a few locations with remains of old-growth primary forest, on the slopes of the Occidental and Central Andean Cordillera, in Valle, Quindío, Antioquia and Risaralda departments. Plants are predominantly photosynthetic eukaryotes of the kingdom Plantae. Magnoliaceae
The Magnoliaceae () are a flowering plant family, the magnolia family, in the order Magnoliales. It consists of two genera: ''Magnolia'' and ''Liriodendron'' (tulip trees). Unlike most angiosperms, whose flower parts are in whorls (rings), the Magnoliaceae have their stamens and pistils in spirals on a conical receptacle. This arrangement is found in some fossil plants and is believed to be a basal or early condition for angiosperms. The flowers also have parts not distinctly differentiated into sepals and petals, while angiosperms that evolved later tend to have distinctly differentiated sepals and petals. The poorly differentiated perianth parts that occupy both positions are known as tepals. Endangered Plants
As of September 2016, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists 3654 endangered plant species. 17% of all evaluated plant species are listed as endangered. The IUCN also lists 99 subspecies and 101 varieties as endangered. No subpopulations of plants have been evaluated by the IUCN. For a species to be considered endangered by the IUCN it must meet certain quantitative criteria which are designed to classify taxa facing "a very high risk of exintction".
