Magna Kusina is a Filipino restaurant in Portland, Oregon. History Carlo Lamagna opened the restaurant in August 2019. The business planned to operate a stall in the food hall at Block 216, as of 2023. Instead, Sun Rice opened within the Moxy Portland Downtown. Magna Kubo, described as a "spin-off" of Magna Kusina, operated in Beaverton from 2023 to 2024. Reception In 2021, Magna Kusina was named Restaurant of the Year by '' The Oregonian'', and Lamagna was included in ''Food & Wine'' class of Best New Chefs. Block 216 is a high-rise building in downtown Portland, Oregon, United States. The 35-story building replaced the Alder Street food cart pod and parking lot between 9th and 10th avenues and Alder and Washington streets. At tall, it is Portland's fifth-tallest structure. Magna Kubo was a Filipino restaurant in Beaverton, Oregon. Owner Carlo Lamagna and chef Kevin Balonso opened the restaurant in 2023, as an off-shoot of Lamagna's Portland eatery Magna Kusina. Filipino American cuisine has been present in America ever since Filipinos moved there, but only recently has the Filipino food become more widely popular. Filipino food has gone through its evolution of adapting other cultures' food practices into their own, or borrowing the food concept into their own. Filipinos took their food and debut it as they came to America by presenting it in catering and opening up the Philippines' most popular food chain, Jollibee. There is also a long list of different Filipino types of dishes that represent Filipino Americans.
