MaMaMedia was an educational consulting firm run by Idit Harel Caperton, specializing in applications of constructionist learning theory. Founded in 1995, MaMaMedia.com was designed to foster digital literacy skills for children using constructionist theory principles. It was awarded the GII Award for Education in 1999 "for helping kids become life-long learners". The site provided web users with a range of "playful learning" activities and projects. Idit Harel Caperton
Idit R. Harel (born Idit Ron; September 18, 1958) is an Israeli-American entrepreneur and CEO of Globaloria. She is a learning sciences researcher and pioneer of Constructionist learning-based EdTech interventions. Overview Harel researches and writes on the impact of computational new media technology on the social and academic development of children and their epistemology. Her MIT Media Lab research with Seymour Papert has contributed to the development of constructionist learning theory. She blogs monthly on Huffington Post Impact and Technology verticals on computer skills education, particularly for young women, girls, and underprivileged children, and the value of massive open online courses (MOOCs) in education reform. The NII Awards was an awards program designed to recognize excellence and innovation in use of the Internet. The National Information Infrastructure Awards, later known as the Global Information Infrastructure (GII) Awards were given from 1995 though 1999. History The NII Awards were created in 1995 by Access Media Inc. (based in Santa Monica, California), with James Hake as Chairman. By 1999 Melanie McMullen was General Manager of the GII Awards. The Awards were supported by more than 70 corporate, media, government and public sponsors. Businesses, community organizations, government agencies and individuals were all eligible to submit entries to the competition.
