MVG Class A
The MVG Class A is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type operated by the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft on the Munich U-Bahn system. It is the first and oldest type of rolling stock in service on the Munich U-Bahn, and is used on all lines. The prototypes were delivered in 1967, and the full-production units from 1970 until 1983. A derivative of the Class A, the VAG Class DT1, is in service on the Nuremberg U-Bahn system. Formation Every Class A train consists of two permanently-coupled cars, forming a twin-unit. The car at the northern end is numbered 6xxx, while the car at the southern end is numbered 7xxx. The trains are equipped with automatic Scharfenberg couplers, enabling operation of up to three units together to form a six-car train. MAN SE (abbreviation of ''Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg'', ) was a manufacturing and engineering company based in Munich, Germany. Aluminium
Aluminium (aluminum in American and Canadian English) is a chemical element with the symbol Al and atomic number 13. The Deutsches Museum (''German Museum'', officially (English: ''German Museum of Masterpieces of Science and Technology'')) in Munich, Germany, is the world's largest museum of science and technology, with about 28,000 exhibited objects from 50 fields of science and technology. MVG Museum
The MVG Museum of the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft is a public transportation museum for the presentation of historical and modern public transportation in Munich. In an area of over are around 25 historical trams, buses and work vehicles on exhibit. The streetcars are arranged on two tracks leading through the entire hall. The "CVs" are also displayed for each vehicle. In addition, the museum present more than 150 billboards and other exhibits, such as a subway simulator in an original car from the 1980s, several tramway driving switches, historical paintings, a small cinema and a model railroad exhibition. The MVG-Museum is located in a part of the historically protected Ausbesserungswerk at Ständlerstraße 20 in Ramersdorf. It was opened on 28 October 2007. MVG Class C
The MVG Class C is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type operated by the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft on the Munich U-Bahn system since 2002. It is the first type of rolling stock on the Munich U-Bahn that consists of more than two cars and features gangways between the individual cars. Design The first concept intended a three car train. Those plans were later revised to a six car formation, with the exterior and interior designed by Alexander Neumeister. The newer C2 trains are based on the C1, and are also designed by Neumeister. For its design, the C2 trains were awarded a German Design Award, Red Dot Design Award for product design 2013, and Universal Design Consumer Favorite award 2013. Rheostatic Braking
Dynamic braking is the use of an electric traction motor as a generator when slowing a vehicle such as an electric or diesel-electric locomotive. It is termed " rheostatic" if the generated electrical power is dissipated as heat in brake grid resistors, and " regenerative" if the power is returned to the supply line.
