MTV Music is a British pay television channel operated by Paramount Networks UK & Australia. The brand was first launched in the UK and Ireland before launching in Australia, New Zealand, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland. Unlike other MTV Music channels, this channel offers subtitles on selected programmes. History Viacom International Media Network announced the introduction of a non-stop music channel in January 2011. As the main MTV brand has deviated from its original purpose and increased competition from other music channels and online services, MTV addressed this issue by launching a new music channel MTV Music. The channel launched on 1 February 2011 in both the United Kingdom and Ireland. The channel replaced MTV Shows. On the 1 February 2011, on Sky UK and Sky Ireland, MTV and MTV Shows swapped positions in the EPG where MTV became part of the Entertainment channels and MTV Shows was moved to the Music channels and renamed MTV Music. MTV Base was a British pay television music channel from Paramount Networks UK & Australia that focused primarily on hip hop, R&B, grime, garage, reggae, funk, soul and dance music. It was launched as part of MTV's digital boutique of music channels on July 1, 1999 in both the United Kingdom and in Ireland. MTV Base closed on 31 March 2022, and was replaced by MTV 90s. The last video on the channel was "Shutdown" by Skepta. MTV Plus was a Greek free-to-air television channel, owned by Viacom. It was also distributed in Italy from 17 May 2010 until 1 March 2011, when it was replaced by MTV Music. On 1 November 2018 Nicknight Germany was replaced by the German relaunch of MTV Plus named “MTV+“, but later replaced by Comedy Central +1 on 1 March 2021. MTV Music is an Italian pay television music channel operated by Paramount Networks EMEAA. As the main MTV brand has deviated from its original purpose and increased competition from other music channels and online services, MTV launched a new music channel, MTV Music. The first version of the channel had launched in the United Kingdom and Ireland on 1 February 2011 replacing MTV Shows. The Italian version of the new channel then channel launched on 1 March 2011, replacing MTV Plus. It is expected that MTV may launch MTV Music channels in other regions under a new global strategy to simplify the branding used across territories.
