MTR Light Rail Route 505
Route 505 is an MTR route linking Sam Shing stop and Siu Hong stop, in the southern and northern parts of Tuen Mun, Hong Kong, respectively. The route is coloured red on the Light Rail system map. The route has three one-way segments: and are on a one-way clockwise loop at the northern end of the line; and in the middle of the route there is a split such that and are only served by northbound trains, and only by southbound trains. The route began service on 24 September 1988, from Siu Hong to . At the time, the trains towards Siu Hong had a different number, 504. From 2 February 1992, the route was extended to . Tuen Mun District
Tuen Mun District is one of the 18 administrative districts of Hong Kong. It is the westernmost continental district of Hong Kong. It had a population of 487,546 in 2011. Part of the district is the Tuen Mun New Town (or simply Tuen Mun), which contains one of the largest residential areas in the New Territories. MTR Light Rail
The Light Rail, also known as the Light Rail Transit (LRT), officially the North-West Railway, is a light rail system in Hong Kong, serving the northwestern New Territories, within Tuen Mun District and Yuen Long District. The system operates over gauge track, using 750 V DC overhead power supply. It was once one of four systems comprising the KCR network in Hong Kong, before the MTR–KCR merger in 2007. KCR Corporation
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC; ) is a Hong Kong wholly government-owned railway and land asset manager. It was established in 1982 under the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation Ordinance for the purposes of operating the Kowloon–Canton Railway (KCR), and to construct and operate other new railways. On 2 December 2007, the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL), another railway operator in Hong Kong, took over the operations of the KCR network under a 50-year service concession agreement, which can be extended. Sam Shing Stop
Sam Shing () is an MTR Light Rail terminus located on the ground near Hoi Wing Road, inside Hanford Garden and next to Sam Shing Estate in Tuen Mun District, Hong Kong. It began service on 2 February 1992 and belongs to Zone 1. It serves Sam Shing Estate and Hanford Garden. There are three platforms in the terminus. Platform 1 is the terminus of route 505. Platform 2 is reserved for emergency use. Platform 3 is for alighting. The stop was named Sam Shing Terminus () before 13 June 2010. Tuen Mun or Castle Peak is an area near the mouth of Tuen Mun River and Castle Peak Bay in the New Territories, Hong Kong. It was one of the earliest settlements in what is now Hong Kong and can be dated to the Neolithic period. In the more recent past, it was home to many Tanka fishermen who gathered at Castle Peak Bay. Tuen Mun is an MTR station in Tuen Mun, New Territories, Hong Kong. It is the western terminus of the . The station is elevated over the Tuen Mun River, near the Town Park in the centre of Tuen Mun New Town. The first train to Wu Kai Sha departs at 5:45 a.m., and the last train departs at 12:15 a.m. the day after. It is an interchange station with the Tuen Mun stop and Ho Tin stop. A public transport interchange adjacent to the station gives passengers direct access to the station concourse via escalators and stairs. Siu Hong () is an MTR station located beside Siu Hong Court, Tuen Mun, New Territories. It is built on the Tuen Mun Nullah immediately east of Siu Hong Court.
