''Mountain Biking UK'' (often shortened to ''MBUK'') is a British mountain biking magazine. It is published by Our Media, an Immediate Media group company, and is currently the UK's best-selling mountain bike magazine, with a circulation of 23,322 (ABC: Jan – Dec 2021). History and profile ''MBUK'' was launched in 1988 by Pacificon Limited. It was edited by Tym Manley, who remained editor at large until 2009. Chris Turner, M.D. and Publisher, sold the title to Chris Anderson of Future Publishing in 2010 for an undisclosed amount of money, and in 2014, former-owner Future plc sold all its sports and crafts titles to Immediate Media Company, including the ''MBUK'' title. In 2021, the cycling titles were moved under the umbrella of the Immediate Media-owned Our Media Ltd. The current editor is James Costley-White. Steve Peat
Steve Peat (born 17 June 1974 in Chapeltown, South Yorkshire), nicknamed "Sheffield Steel" or more commonly just "Peaty", is a professional downhill mountain biker who was born and lives in Chapeltown, Sheffield, England. Prior to his career as a professional mountain biker Peat was employed as a plumber by James Lamb. He is married to Adele Croxon and has two sons, Jake and George Peat. Peat began his career with little success riding for the Saracen team alongside Rob Warner, before moving in the mid 1990s to Team MBUK. He rode for GT Bicycles in the late 1990s and for the Orange team between 2002 and 2005, winning the Fort William downhill world cup round in 2005. He then joined the Santa Cruz Syndicate team for the 2006 season, which saw him finish 1st overall. He continues to race for Santa Cruz Syndicate. Rob Warner (mountain Biker)
Rob Warner (born 16 November 1970) is a retired professional downhill mountain biker born in Reading, England. Before turning professional in 1993 Warner worked for 6 months at the Rover plant in Oxford on a production line building the Rover 800 series car. After riding for Saracen with teammate Steve Peat and then MBUK, he signed for the Giant Bicycles Downhill Team, and remained with them until the end of 2016. He then went on to join Commencal Bikes in 2017 in the role of brand ambassador. In 1996 he became the first ever British rider to win a round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup taking a historic win at Kaprun in Austria. According to Warner, in a video streamed to Pinkbike on 2 June 2014 titleThe Lost Rob Warner Story he actually won the Kaprun World Cup with an STI he picked up in Les Gets a week before. Scott Beaumont
Scott Beaumont (born 2 June 1978), nicknamed Boom Boom, is an English pro mountain bike racer, specialising in the disciplines of downhill and fourcross. He lives in the UK. Beaumont was born in Northallerton, Yorkshire in 1978. He started racing BMX aged four, and went on to win several national titles, and was World BMX Champion in 1995 and 1996. UCI Mountain Bike World Cup
The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup is a multi-round mountain bike racing series that is sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale. The first World Cup series – which was composed of cross-country events – was held in 1989. The Downhill World Cup was inaugurated two years later, and the Dual Slalom World Cup was launched in 1998. The dual-slalom format – which involved knock-out heats with two riders on the parallel courses in each heat – evolved into four-cross (with four riders on a single course per heat) in 2002 before being dropped after the 2011 season. Riders win points according to their placing in each event. The reigning series leaders in each class are identified by a special jersey.
