MAN 630
The MAN 630 is a five-tonne lorry, made by German manufacturer Maschinenfabrik Augsburg Nürnberg, from 1953 until 1972. It was made in three major variants, the civilian ''L1'', the military ''L2'', and the civilian ''L3'' with L being an abbreviation for the German word for Lorry, ''Lastkraftwagen''. The military L2 versions were by far the most common MAN 630s. The German Bundeswehr (Federal Defence Forces) purchased approximately 30,000 units of the L2, and used it as their standard lorry alongside the similar five-tonne Mercedes-Benz LG 315. A beam axle, rigid axle or solid axle is a dependent suspension design in which a set of wheels is connected laterally by a single beam or shaft. Exhaust Brake
An exhaust brake is a means of slowing a diesel engine by closing off the exhaust path from the engine, causing the exhaust gases to be compressed in the exhaust manifold, and in the cylinder. Since the exhaust is being compressed, and there is no fuel being applied, the engine slows down the vehicle. The amount of negative torque generated is usually directly proportional to the back pressure of the engine. The MAN M-System, also referred to as M-Process and M combustion process, is a direct injection system for Diesel engines.
