Māris Jass (born January 18, 1985) is a Latvian professional ice hockey forward. He is currently playing a free agent having last played for GKS Katowice of the Polska Hokej Liga. Playing career He started his career in Stalkers/Juniors of the Latvian Hockey League. After spending two seasons in the lower-tier Russian league, he spent the next six seasons with HK Liepājas Metalurgs, playing also for HC Lada Togliatti and HC Slavia Praha. In 2009-10 he played for HK Ardo Nitra of the Slovak Extraliga. Jass remained in Slovakia for 2010-11, signing with HK 36 Skalica HK Skalica is a professional ice hockey team based in Skalica, Slovakia. Daugavpils
Daugavpils (see also other names) is a state city in southeastern Latvia, located on the banks of the Daugava River, from which the city derives its name. Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from Goal (ice hockey), scoring. GKS Katowice (; GKS stands for , ) is a Polish professional football club based in Katowice. They currently compete in the Ekstraklasa in the 2024–25 season after gaining promotion from the I liga in 2024. History In 1963 in Katowice a special organizational committee was called with the purpose of uniting all the clubs and sporting organizations of the city into one large club which would encompass many disciplines. The Slovak Extraliga, known as the Tipsport liga since the 2025–26 season for sponsorship reasons, is the highest-level ice hockey league in Slovakia. From 2018–19 to 2020–21, the league included one or two teams from Hungary. Teams from the Extraliga can participate in the IIHF's annual Champions Hockey League (CHL). Hokejový Klub Nitra is a professional ice hockey club based in Nitra, Slovakia. The club has been a member of the Slovak Extraliga since the 2003–04 season and winner of Slovak Extraliga in the 2015–16 season and 2023–24 season. History The club was founded in 1931 under the name AC. Their first trophy which they won was the Tatra Cup in 1934. The Latvian Hockey Higher League (), also known as the Optibet Hockey League () since 2017 due to sponsorship by Optibet, is the top tier league of ice hockey in Latvia. The league is competed by nine teams from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
