Mülheim-Styrum Station
Mülheim-Styrum station is located in the district of Styrum in the German city of Mülheim in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is on the Witten/Dortmund–Oberhausen/Duisburg railway, Witten/Dortmund–Oberhausen/Duisburg line and is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a German railway station categories, category 3 station. Location and layout The station is served by passenger and freight traffic. The track system comprises a total of five platform tracks. S-Bahn trains to and from Duisburg use tracks 2 and 5, the trains to and from Oberhausen use tracks 3 and 4 on the two island platforms. The house platform (platform 1) and track 6 (which has no platform) are used for long-distance and regional trains. Sidings 8–18 are to the north of this (although track 12 is vacant). Styrum
Styrum (; sometimes spelled "Stirum") was an immediate lordship in the Holy Roman Empire, located in Mülheim an der Ruhr, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It held no seat in the Diet and was circumvened by the Lordship of Broich. The exact date of construction of its castle is unknown. Styrum was already prosperous in Frankish times before Charlemagne (late 8th century). In 1067 Styrum was given to the Abbacy of Kaiserswerth. After the murder of the Archbishop of Cologne, Engelbert of Berg, in 1225, the descendants of Frederick I of Isenberg gained ownership of Mülheim on the river Ruhr and thereby of the castle Styrum and the castle Hohenlimburg on the river Lenne. They founded the line of Counts of Limburg zu Hohenlimburg and Lords of Limburg zu Styrum. The family obtained important estates in Westphalia and the Lower Rhine. Automatic block signaling (ABS), spelled automatic block signalling or called track circuit block (TCB ) in the UK, is a railroad communications system that consists of a series of signals that divide a railway line into a series of sections, called ''blocks''. The system controls the movement of trains between the blocks using automatic signals. ABS operation is designed to allow trains operating in the same direction to follow each other in a safe manner without risk of rear-end collision. The introduction of ABS reduced railways' costs and increased their capacity. Older manual block systems required human operators. Oberhausen (, ) is a city on the river Emscher in the Ruhr Area, Germany, located between Duisburg and Essen ( ). The Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn (german: S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr) is a polycentric and electrically driven S-train network covering the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Region in the German federated state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
