Myra Larcombe
Myra Beatrice Larcombe (; 1 September 1927 – 9 April 2022) was a New Zealand swimming coach, police officer and historian. She was a swimming coach for over 70 years, and was one of New Zealand's first female police officers in the 1950s. Early life and police career Larcombe was born on 1 September 1927, and grew up on a farm on the Waikare Inlet, near Opua. She was one of four children, all of whom were good swimmers, and attended school in Kawakawa. In 1946 she began competing in swimming competitions and working as a swimming coach at Whangarei Swimming Club. In 1951 she became one of the first female police officers in New Zealand, aged 23, and in 1954 became the first female police officer in Northland when she was transferred to Whangārei. Opua
Opua is a locality in the Bay of Islands, in the sub-tropical Northland Region of New Zealand. It is notable as the first port for overseas yachts arriving in the country after crossing the Pacific Ocean. In the original 1870s plans for the town, it was named Newport. The town of Paihia is nearby, and the small settlement of Te Haumi is in between. The car ferry across the Bay of Islands, the main tourist access to Russell, runs between Opua and Okiato. The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage gives a translation of "place of the flower" for ''Ōpua''. The Waimangaro area north-west of Opua is listed on the Ngāpuhi and Te Puni Kōkiri websites as a traditional meeting point of the Ngāpuhi hapū of Te Uri Ongaonga. Queen's Service Medal
The Queen's Service Medal is a medal awarded by the government of New Zealand to recognise and reward volunteer service to the community and also public service in elected or appointed public office. It was established in 1975 and is related to the Queen's Service Order. The QSM replaced the Imperial Service Medal as an award of New Zealand. Appearance 1975–2007 The original medal was made of sterling silver, in diameter. The obverse bears the same effigy of The Queen as the badge of the Queen's Service Order. Surrounding the effigy are the Royal styles and titles "ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.". The reverse depicts the New Zealand Coat of Arms surrounded by the inscription "The Queen's Service Medal" and the name of the sub-division either "for Community Service" or "for Public Services".
