Mylanthanai
Mylanthanai (Tamil: மயிலந்தனை) was a minority Sri Lankan Tamil populated village in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka in the Batticaloa district. As part of the Sri Lankan civil war, people from the village were displaced in 1990 and again after a Mylanthanai massacre in August 1992. They had taken refuge in Valaichenai Valaichchenai ( ta, வாழைச்சேனை ''Valaichchenai''; si, වාලසේන / වාලච්චේන ''waalasena / Valaichchena'') is a town in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. Mylanthanai Massacre
The Mylanthanai massacre happened on August 9, 1992 when 35 minority Sri Lankan Tamils, including 14 children, at Mylanthanai in Batticaloa District in Sri Lanka, were killed. Sri Lankan Army soldiers from an army camp in Punanai were initially accused of the crime, but they were acquitted by the unanimous verdict of a jury in Colombo. Incident On August 9, 1992 according to the government prosecutor Sri Lankan Army soldiers attacked the village of Mylanthanai, after the army's commanding officer in Jaffna was killed along with seven soldiers in a landmine explosion earlier the same day. According to the pro-rebel Tamilnet reporting on the court proceedings, an eye witness Ms Sinnathurai Indrakala, 28 was quoted as saying that the soldiers had used guns, knives and axes to carry out the murders. Tamil Language
Tamil (; ' , ) is a Dravidian language natively spoken by the Tamil people of South Asia. Minority Group
The term 'minority group' has different usages depending on the context. According to its common usage, a minority group can simply be understood in terms of demographic sizes within a population: i.e. a group in society with the least number of individuals is therefore the 'minority'. Sri Lankan Tamils ( or ), also known as Ceylon Tamils or Eelam Tamils, are Tamils native to the South Asian island state of Sri Lanka. Valaichchenai ( ta, வாழைச்சேனை ''Valaichchenai''; si, වාලසේන / වාලච්චේන ''waalasena / Valaichchena'') is a town in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka.
