Mykola Semena
Mykola Mykhailovych Semena ( uk, Микола Михайлович Семена; born 14 May 1950) is a Ukrainian journalist who worked for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) in the mid-2010s. In 2016 he was arrested by the Russian authorities in Crimea and was tried in the following year. He was found guilty of separatism, and was barred from working as a journalist. The court sentence was criticized by several Western governments and nongovernmental organizations ("NGOs"). Career Semena worked for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in the mid-2010s. In April 2016 he was arrested by Russian authorities in Crimea, and was charged with acting "against the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation." The charge was based on Article 280.1 of the Russian Criminal Code, which had been adopted shortly after Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea. The UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize, created in 1997, honours a person, organization or institution that has made an outstanding contribution to the defence and/or promotion of press freedom anywhere in the world, especially when this has been achieved in the face of danger. The prize, worth US$ 25,000, is awarded each year on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day on 3 May. The prize is named after Guillermo Cano Isaza, the editor of the Colombian newspaper ''El Espectador,'' who was murdered in Bogotá on 17 December 1986. Roman Volodymyrovych Sushchenko (, born 8 February 1969) is a Ukrainian journalist and artist. He was arrested in Russia on spying charges in 2016 and sentenced in 2018; his detention and sentence have been criticized by a number of Ukrainian and international agencies. Sushchenko was released in September 2019. Career Sushchenko was born on 8 February 1969 in Cherkasy. Helsinki Committee For Human Rights
The Helsinki Committees for Human Rights exist in many European countries (the OSCE region) as volunteer, non-profit organizations devoted to human rights and presumably named after the Helsinki Accords. Formerly organized into the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights (IHF) based in Vienna. The Helsinki Committees began as Helsinki Watch groups. The first one was founded in the Soviet Union in 1976, the second in 1977 in Czechoslovakia, the third in 1979 in Poland. In 1982, representatives of several of these committees held an International Citizens Helsinki Watch Conference and founded the IHF. In 1992, a British Helsinki Human Rights Group was established in the UK, but this group was always completely independent of the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights.
