Mykhailo Starov is a competitive Strongman from Ukraine. Having competed in 24 International strongman competitions and winning 5 of them, Starov is among the 50 most decorated strongmen of all time. He is a two-time World Strongman Cup Federation champion and a three-time United Strongman Series champion. In 2005 he won Ukraine's Strongest Man and proceeded to secure third place in the 2005 Europe's Strongest Man competition behind Jarek Dymek Jarek Dymek (born January 21, 1971) is a Polish former strongman competitor. Strongman
In the 19th century, the term strongman referred to an exhibitor of strength or similar circus performers who performed feats of strength. More recently, strength athletics, also known as strongman competitions, have grown in popularity. These competitions are now composed of a variety of events in which competitors have to move the highest weights possible, the winner being the one having the highest tally across all events. Description In the first half of the 20th century, strongmen would perform various feats of strength such as the bent press (not to be confused with the bench press, which did not exist at the time), supporting large amounts of weight held overhead at arm's length, steel bending, chain breaking, etc. They needed to have large amounts of wrist, hand, and tendon strength for these feats, as well as prodigious oblique strength. Europe's Strongest Man is an annual strength athletics competition which began in 1980. The event is held in various locations throughout Europe, and features exclusively European strongman competitors. Mariusz Pudzianowski holds the record for most wins with 6 titles. World Strongman Cup Federation
The World Strongman Cup Federation ("WSCF") was a worldwide organisation within strength athletics that claimed to be the sport's organising body with the aim of making "the Strongman Sport more popular and accessible for a wide range of the people." Its motto was "be strong". It was also a charity. The Federation organised the World Strongman Cup one of the main competitions in the field of strength athletics boasting participation from some of the foremost strongmen around the globe. Ukraine's Strongest Man ( ua, Найсильніша людина України) is an annual strongman competition held in Ukraine, featuring exclusively Ukrainian athletes to determine the Strongest Ukrainian of the year. Vasyl Virastyuk holds the record for most wins, winning the title 7 times. Oleksandr Lashyn has won the title 6 times and Oleksii Novikov 4 times. Janne Virtanen
Janne Virtanen (born 16 November 1969) is a Finnish former strongman who won the World's Strongest Man championship in 2000. He was runner-up in 1999 and finished third in 2001. His other championships include four-time Finland's Strongest Man (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001), Helsinki Grand Prix (2000), and the Turkey Grand Prix in 2002 in Istanbul. Following his second consecutive failure to reach the final of the World's Strongest Man in 2007, he announced his retirement but entered into the third qualifying heat of the competition in 2008.
